Bob's Journey into Hybridisation and Genetics - For Dummies

Hey friends :toke:

Got a small update from the 'males' inside the tent.
Some of them are starting to grow towards the light doing their stretching thing. The difference between them is quite funny actually as both 'stretchers' are Sativa dominant. The others seem to deal with the lower light conditions better. I just need to remember giving them another STS treament on Friday as not all have showed male flowers and instead some of them were growing female flowers...So wannabreeders, if you don't want to forget an STS treatment, create a calendar on your phone or something so you remember. Do as I say, not as I do :smoking:

Hey friends :toke:

Another hot update from within the greenhouse. Even with the chalk on the outside, temperatures keep hitting 45°C / 113°F with the windows open. Lol, sitting in there is even therapeutic as the warmth eases the pain in my back...And if it get's to hot I turn open the fossette and spray some water around. Just have to be careful with the heated table... :hothot:

The first generation females are starting to take off. Let's see how far they fly in those small pouches. Might have to feed them some crushed up BioTab as I do like them to finish the seeds they'll make.

Looking good mate . :pighug:

Do you know what you will be looking for from you're plants to create the next generation?

Well to make the crosses I did my research and looked for cultivars with a similar background. Most of them are cultivars I liked in previous grows, the F1's I made last year and a couple of cultivars I bought a while ago and because of AFN (Thank You AFN,) couldn't grow. :crying:
A couple of things I'm looking for...
  • The result must be as good as the parents. ie, if I should cross a White Widow to a Moby Dick Auto I expect the White Widow to come out more dominant then in Moby Dick expressed.
  • The bigger the better. We're in a greenhouse guys, so 1,5m and higher is A-ok.
  • Speed. The faster the better, but volume get's precedence.
  • Mold resistance. I know this is one of the harder things to lock in, but if I find one be sure I'll add this to the genepool.
  • Heat resistance. This one comes with the turf. From the start they reside inside a freaking hot greenhouse, so the ones that don't make it...Darwin...

Hey breeders and fellow wannabreeders :toke:

Took another trip to the tent today to see if more males are starting to show balls...

Guess the cat's out of the bag on this purple gent...One Auto Purple Kush from Linda's Seeds ladies and gentlemen. The purple is just amazing and would love to get it in a couple of other strains I like...

Purple Amnesia perhaps? :greenthumb:

As you can see all the ahum 'males' are showing balls... Some are also showing female flowers, but that is due to me forgetting to continue the STS treament for one or two weeks...

Hey friends :toke:

Today an update from both the greenhouse and the tent. :d5:
Inside the greenhouse the ladies in waiting are growing nicely. But I've heard them talking about them guys that are basking inside the tent...Hopefully their pollen ripens soon or I'll have a prison riot on my hands :haha:

Inside the tent I gave every gent an aluminum skirt to catch the pollen as it's released. And while doing that I broke off this fella's trunk. :face:
So I put him in a glass of water. We'll see what comes from this. :gassy1:

Hope I get loads of pollen from this perfect specimen ♥

I cleaned up everything below the foil.

And I found one single fungus gnat. Luckily all the ladies we're already harvested

So...That's it for today. Hopefully I'll have loads of pollen soon and I'll be able to pollinate all those ladies in waiting. Won't be needing this one :condom:

Colchicine is a medication used to treat gout and Behçet's disease. In gout, it is less preferred to NSAIDs or steroids. Other uses for colchicine include the management of pericarditis and familial Mediterranean fever.
Polyploidy (favorable traits in Cannabis) has not been shown to occur naturally in Cannabis; however, it may be induced artificially with colchicine treatments.

Correct my friend
Next season I'm gonna dip my tows in to Polyploidy and see what we can make...or not:shrug:
