Dutch Passion Billy Wu's FIRST DWC HYDRO GROW - DP Auto White Widow

When will it require any feeding?
Oh and also, do I fill the mesh half full of pebbles, put the rockwool and seed in, then put more pebbles on top to level it off?

Is this how the water level should be?

Hello Billy initially Mr Jorilla has the water level 1/4 inch beneath the bottom of the pots... the jacuzzi bubbles will moisten the stones... ?

When will it require any feeding?
Oh and also, do I fill the mesh half full of pebbles, put the rockwool and seed in, then put more pebbles on top to level it off?

Mr Jorilla made initial tank as follows:

The initial reservoir was made up as follows using Dutch Pro Autoflower grow nutrients and Growth technology liquid silicon at 0.5ml/L:

EC 0.8-1.0 on Bluelab truncheon.
pH 5.8

So a weak feed...

As for the clay pebbles keep them away from the seedling/young plant stem until the stem has started to harden... you could also try the Jorilla method and grow the young ladies on a bit in a 4 inch grodan before transplanting into the bucket.

Check out the first two to three pages of Mr Jorillas current thread for a few pointers...

Happy gardening

Mr Jorilla ganjamoto.

(Disclaimer Mr Jorilla ganjamoto is not a DWC expert but merely grows big, high yielding plants and is advising of the Jorilla method so anyone else please feel free to contribute)

Hey Billy,

I think that there are many methods that will work in DWC, what Mr Jorilla suggested will work, I have done it that way, but I have also done a few grow like you have it set up, what I do(taken from SB) is layer the bottom of the net pot with hydroton, then place your rockwool cube on the top, you can gently place pebbles around the cube to give it stability, then as Mr. J pointed out wait until the stem hardens a bit to put the rest of the pebs on top, I also followed SB's recommendations by using some formulex, but I have also used a weak solution of Sensi AB about 1/8th strength.

It comes down to personal choice, either way works well. best of luck on your hydro run!!!

Day 1

The seed has just started to crack its casing now and I can see the tap root. I've put it in the rockwool cube and straight into the pebbles :) Gonna get it settled straight into it's home.

Initial res is at about 0.7 EC and pH 5.5 consisting of about 0.5 Formulex, 0.1 base reading from tap water and 0.1 from a bit of Voodoo juice. Hopefully should all be grand :)
If anyone has any advice as I go along please let me know!

Good luck with the buckets Billy...:smokebuds:

Should my pH be at 5.5 or 5.8 at this point?

Hey Billy, good luck on your dwc challenge, i'm just over a month in on my first try and I've had a few ups and downs to keep it short :p I germinated in the res like you are doing now but I've since been advised against it (keep it somewhere warmer and keep the cube moist). My plant did sprout but I've had a few issues along the way may or may not be directly related to my germinating method.
I believe your PH needs to be at 5.5 for these early stages, but you raise it as the plant develops. EC is usually started at 0.8 so 0.9 if you have .1 background EC. I'll try help out best I can but there's gonna be people who can advise you better I'm sure of it, anything you need buddy just ask :)
:smokebuds:

Thanks man, I appreciate it :) I'll see about bumping the EC up a little more.

I believe the Formulex is like baby food for the plant so you should be safe at 0.8, one of the hydro pros will shout at me if I'm wrong :D: You could also fill the netpot more with the hydoton to try and minimise light leaks through the net pot, you want the res to be as light tight as possible to avoid slimes and nasty stuff :High 5: It's definitely a learning curve trying DWC but I'm sure you will handle it man, kinda cool we're growing out the latest DP genetics released for our first stab at DWC - looking forward to the journey, subscribed :smokebuds:

Just had a little look at the seed, I thought it wasn't doing anything as I usually have my seeds breaking the top of their medium in about 2 days after seeing the tap root. Had to dig it out of the rockwool, but it's growing down through towards the res :) Hopefully haven't damaged it.
