So as some of you may have heard, Mephisto will not be selling direct again until "the new year" (smartly, no specific date set this time). I live in a highly illegal country which is currently waging a war on "bad mail", so whoever I make my next order from it has to be good value for money. As far as I can tell, the seed banks (even the ones Mephisto refers you to) are all basically straight up garbage, so not ordering from there is top of my list of priorities; not really into spending twice the money for half the product.

I want to grow a good, high quality, headstash. I would say the most important things for me, in desceding order: Quality of High, Bang for my Buck, Smell/flavor, Variety, Yield. All the reading I've been doing, here and elsewhere, leads me to believe that Mephisto is the only company consistently offering these in Autoflowers. Am I wrong?

Basically, seeing as I would like for this grow to be done by mid-April at the latest (temperatures here will be mid-high 30's by then), would I just be better off giving up on Autos for the foreseeable future and sticking with something like Greenpoint Seeds, trying to find a keeper, etc? Because it seems to me that starting in February (which will likely be about as early as I would get a Mephisto grow going) would make finishing in time very difficult.

Edit: Just for reference, 40 reg seeds (which would hopefully give me ~20 females, more than 1 of which will hopefully be around for a while) from GPS should run me about 150-200$ shipped, depending on strain. For the same money, I can get something like 7-10 Meph seeds plus 2-3 of whatever overstock Barney's Farm/GHS seeds any one particular seed bank decides to chip in. Doesn't seem like a good deal, tbh.

Oregon Elite Seeds(stateside),Ali Bongo&Herbies(uk)-Hope this helps-Im finding the only reliable bean providers stateside are SHN(seedsherenow),OES (Oregoneliteseedbank) & Mephisto(unfortunately KO'd for the moment)
*OES has a small stock of Mephisto for $30-3 Pks

Of those, only Herbies take bitcoin, which personally is the only way I consider even remotely safe. Basically, the only really good deal you can get on Mephisto seeds is straight from the supplier, and that's off the table.

Way I see it, I can pick either Mephisto (great genetics, autoflowering, terrible pricing rn), some other auto (unknown genetics, autoflowering, prices vary) or a good autoflower (good genetics, photoperiodic, great pricing).
I think autos by other breeders (that I'm aware of; recommend away) are off the table, just because it's impossible for me to respect anyone who won't even name the parent plants. Mephisto is the best option for me - ticks all my boxes - except it's currently literally 4 times as expensive per seed shipped than Greenpoint Seeds. It's hard for me to really justify that kind of spending, but I'm open to arguments about why I'm wrong. Other option is to wait a month and hope they work their shit out, but that could also wind up meaning I don't grow this year at all, which is bad.

All thoughts appreciated.

I see an issue with your thinking.

If, your going to pheno hunt, you will need to grow, clone, then flower the clones, this is going to add to your timeline. Seed to time to clone, 2 months rooting clones and vegging another month up (depending if you plan on a sea of green or full bush), and then your flowering time. You've got 4 months and a little change (from now) to be done in April, I don't see trying to find a good mother as an option if you plan on being done in this time frame.
So if you drop photos now, your going to have to flip mid February (with a quick flowing strain) to be done mid april.

I just dropped my first meph seeds, calculated pull date is mid Feb.
I think your at a point where you need to make the decision, time? Or money? If it were me, and mephisto is what you want in autos, I'd buy a three pack to get the setup rolling and make a second order later.
I understand the legal issues, have delt with the same, up until recently. It'll still be cheaper (and safer) than having to buy your uhm..needs!

Yeah that's a good point about the moms.

My problem is with making repeated orders. The grow itself will probably make me paranoid as all fuck, but shouldn't pose too much of an actual problem where I live. Customs is a different problem. I really just wanted to make one big one, but I guess that's out of the picture.

One of my biggest issues in life is getting past pissed off, to use my noggin and getting moving...
