1st Outdoor Container Grow (Six Shooter by FastBuds)

Was thinking of taking a break during the summer. Will try a couple beginning in Sept./Oct. Way too hot here in the valley during the middle of summer. However..... might try a grow just to see what happens. Maybe put a plant in partial shade to keep it out of hot midday sun.

I am up in the air as well. I have 3 finishing up in the next few weeks. I might plant 4 more autos just to test how they will do in the heat. Ive also thought about starting some photos indoors in august and moving outside once the August heat wave passes. I am in the valley as well

What helps is to put some barley straw on top of your soil to protect it and retain moisture. my two cents from growing in hot areas of socal.

Today is day 42, beginning of week 6. Looking good so far. I am aeratng some conditioned tap water with blackstrap molasses and Recharge as it will probably need it in the next day or two. Next week she will get fed another compost tea. We hit 101º yesterday. Performed a little more LST. Probably the last I will do on this one as there isn’t much left train. Watering about every 5 to 6 days at this point. She is a dink as far as size goes. Started showing some frost about 3 or 4 days ago. Upper buds starting to thicken up a little bit.

Day 49 today. 7 Weeks old. She sure is dainty. I am guessing it is the higher outdoor temps and extremely low humidity (about 100º in the afternoon and 10% RH). It is not 100º all day just about 3 or 4 hours in the afternoon. Night time temps are in the high 60's to low 70's. Fed 1 gal of aerated compost tea yesterday and besides being a 'stubby, she looks to be doing good. No issues. Still getting more frost.

I think I may try another outdoor grow (Gorilla Glue by FastBuds) beginning in July as the humidity should jump up during the monsoon season. Humidity runs around 50 to 60% and the temps should be in the low 100's with the higher humidity. Question for anyone who grows outdoors in warm dry climates: Would I be ok placing the plant in partial shade, i.e., full sun in the mornings and midday but shade from around noon to evening? It would still be receiving reflected sunlight on the patio.

I imagine it'll be fine to do that. Your plant does look like it is tolerating the heat pretty well though, all the leaves look flat and not curled up or taco'd, looks nice & green.

I've wondered the same about giving my plants some shade during the hottest/most intense days of summer.

I live in central valley of Cali and it is often 95 to 105 through out summer, occasionally up around 105 to 110+, and humidity is often around 10% to 15% during the daytime and remains below 50% overnight.

I've thought about hanging up some shade cloth above my plants during those days that the sun is extra intense, basically when ever it gets over 100 degrees. I've wondered how much if any benefit could come from doing that.

I've also considered hanging up some misters around the area my plants grow to increase the humidity on the super hot/dry days, I don't know how practical that would be though.

Here in Aridzona our "monsoon" season usually starts at the beginning of July and goes through August and sometimes into September. The humidity bounces around between 40% and 60%. I was thinking that with the increased humidity it might help the grow. I've done the patio misters years ago and they are a pain in the butt, i.e., maintenance and the mess along with the increased water bill. Plus we are in extreme drought conditions now. I have a spot at the end of my patio where I can get full sunlight in the mornings until around noon then it would be in shade for the remainder of the day. Next to a wall that would still provide reflected light. Just thinking I might give it a try. I find that the grow outside is quite a bit easier than the indoor grow. I don't have to monitor anything outside. Pretty much water when needed and feed a tea every other week in flower. Easy Peasy.

Day 56. She is 8 weeks old today. Doing ok so far. No major deficiencies or issues yet. I do see a couple of little brown spots on a couple of lower leaves but I think it may have been from getting some compost tea/water on them during watering and the sunlight. Other than being a runt she keeps on truckin'. Watering about every 3 days now.

The swamp cooler should help with the low humidity we’re having now. Expect to see it go up at beginning of July.
