Perlite and vermiculite is an inert medium (i.e., it does not come laden with nutrients, microbes, etc.), which is why you need to feed the plants nutrients. The medium will not provide any food. The mix i will use is 3 parts perlite to 1 part vermiculite. Rinse off both medium before you mix. Then just add 3 to 1 as you fill up the buckets. Super easy and clean.

nah seasick - you can grow in pure perlite (called hempy buckets) or pure vermiculite.

It's just a "medium" to hold the roots - the feed comes from the nutes and water and in hempy buckets is passively wicked up from the bottom (in a nutshell)

maybe im wrong here, but arnt those verm and perlite to help drain fluids easier? im confused
They allow a lot of air into the medium, and do hold water, but not like soil. This is why in a hempy bucket you need to have reservoir on the bottom 2 inches, to hold water as the perlite/vermiculite dry out. They will hold some water when top watered , and also allow the roots to "wick" up from the reservoir.

Me and MrMojo just borged it up! :)

Shame there's no time stamps anymore coz that was a close one :D

Ok, so put the Candy Kush int the hemp bucket, filled res, under lights she went. Fingers crossed

Massive Midget, i fear, may be screwed up. I peeked in on it today and looks like the tap root has not really grown, the baby leaves are there, but the tap root seems to be stuck to the seed? I re-orientated it, covered it over, and will hope for the best.

In the meantime, I've begun germination on a second MM just in case.

The Kush already has a tiny set of first leaves.

June 5th. Candy Kush Day 3 in the bucket. Watered again today until runoff. Water went in at about pH 5.6. The runoff was 7.5. I'm chalking this up to not rinsing off the vermiculite (i've rinsed it for the second bucket prep though). Hopefully next run off will be a bit lower, but i'm not about to start chasing runoff pH.

Keeping the temp between 77-82 with humidity at 50-60 most of the time. Under a little strawberry pack lid with vent holes. Surprised at how stable it keeps in there.

2nd Set of leaves already poking out!

And just a shot of this gal's neighbor. This is a bag seed (not auto) that i found in a decent batch i had. i popped it about 3-4 weeks ago, not really sure. It's been topped above the 3rd Node about a week ago and doing well i think. Still no sex apparent. It's been living in the window sill as it's been chilly out, but the weather is finally turning more summer like starting this weekend, so this will move outdoor full time when the other bean i have germinating pops. Just in time. In a way, it was serendipity that the other bean did;t pop for me and i had to go back up because it allowed me to keep this girl in good condition waiting for the outdoor weather to come around!
