Fast Buds 1st Grow, FastBuds - Blackberry & Girl Scout Cookies, 250w HPS - Wish me luck...

Day 33

Just a few pic updates... Only change is I removed 2 large fan leaves from each plan that were semi poorly from laying in wet soil and were semi blocking light to new bud sites....

Day 40

Its been 7 days since my last post and ladies are struggling a little... Temps are averaging 33 due to the increased heat in the climate here, humidity down at around 29%... Some lower big fan leaves are turning a pale yellow and the rest of the plant is not as deep green as it should be I dont think, and this applies to both plants. On the GSC there are also a couple of leaves that have crispy spots which crumble away if pressed which I assume is down to nute burn... Looking like I will only get 30-50g dry in total but it's only my first run.

So that was the bad...

On a good note, every time I open the tent to check I am smacked in the face with the smell of cookies!! Thank lady frikin stinks!! The blackberry also has an amazing berryish smell when touched but unfortunately didnt take on the darker of purple pheno which is even more impossible with my warm temps as I understand you can reduce temps to 20-22 or so in last couple of weeks which can add to the colour.... Please correct me if I am wrong....

Anyways, I have now decided to fuck the HPS off and order myself a MarsHydro 2 400. It seems to have the best bang for buck based on all I have read and is more than suited to a 2.5x2.5 which is bigger than my 2x2. If I like I will buy another and go for a dual angled setup, but steady on now AJ, you still didnt finish your first grow :baked: or so I keep saying to myself... Anyway F it.... i'm doing it regardless but wont implement until the next round wich I think is gonna be Green Crack & Gorilla Glue but also have West Coast OG... Watch this spaceeee....

Are you able to get some natural light pictures of the affected leaves? There are a lot here who are very good at diagnosing problems and are happy to help! It almost looks like either a P deficit or lockout, but that's an uneducated guess. I would get another opinion and don't do anything based on just my thoughts.
Keep up the good grow!

Add some humidity ~ 50% right now your vapor deficit is 33+ and your plants will just shut down and die at that level. It would also be better if you could get the heat down to ~30. A swamp (evaporative) cooler in the room where your air intake is might help on both accounts.

Hi guys, thanks for your comments.... Much better pics below, I should take more shots out of the light and I suppose I will have to once I get the MH 400, I'm sooooo excited!!!

As you can see the plants are not as green as they should be meaning they will need some good nursing to bring them back to good health which I think I will find tough under this HPS. Also with a recent change of events I have to go away on sunday for 10-12 days which totally fucks everything, so this is what i'm doing....

Firstly, and I prob shouldn't have, I took off two of the large very yellow fans from the BB and that was this morn before these pics.

Second, I blasted these bitches with another 1.5l each today with 50% nute sched for late bloom phase which is double their reg nute dose... And im gonna do the same on sunday before I go.... While i'm away my mate will stop by every 3 days and pump each bitch with 2l of distilled bottled water prepping them for a big flush when I get back (around day 55) and cut prob around day 65-70.

Aaahaaaahaaaahaaaa, im soooo gonna kill these fuckers!! well lets hope not!!!

Talk about going for broke....

Ohhhhh, I should also ask.... I will have the MH400 by the time I get back from my trip. Do I bother switching for the last stint or just wait for grow 2?

Peace out my fellow greenbees!!

Hey Man'o'G,

Yes, yes, yes.... This is my issue... As mentioned above with the new pics, the implementation of the MH400 when I get back or for my 2nd grow should make all the required diff regarding temps. Humidity might still be an issue and if so will buy one of those baby humidifier things, though it will take up desired floor space. Fingers crossed all will fall in to place

It is a fallacy that LEDs do not emit heat! 400W is 400W of energy that all ends as heat - period. What the LEDs do not have (unless included intentionally) is infrared light (heat). This means that more of the photons produced will be in the PAR range; but these photons still produce heat and the energy that does not make it to a photon is given off as waste heat. Leaf temperatures will be lower with LEDs (no IR) so you can run your lights closer to the canopy but your tent will experience the same amount of heat as a MH or any other 400w light. You can and should run your tent a little warmer with LEDs to make up for the cooler leaf temperature.

So that said what you need is better ventilation (more CFM) or air conditioning and a humidifier.

I am running ~650W of LEDs in a 4x6x8 space = 192 Cubic Feet. I had to go to an 8" 710 CFM fan to control the heat in this space. I only need about 400 CFM now but as summer gets here I will need all 710 CFM to keep things manageable.

I am not expecting zero heat but from what I have read one can get as much as a 30% reduction (climate dependent) and even if it's just 5-10% i'm game as it's only gonna get warmer here... Nice setup btw!! What kinda ufo led is that? I saw something similar which was cheaper than the MH but the MH came out on top with every measurement in addition to the reviews. Barely anything negative on MH but anything cheaper including the Viparspectra which is one of the better cheaper models has a number of negative reviews weather bad grows or bllom led's going after just a couple of months.... I dont need headaches, just decent and hassle free with a lower carbon footprint....

The UFO is a 9 band 270w, then a 300w 2nd generation full spectrum(these lights together really pull 225w at the wall); I ran these lights in my 2.5x2.5x5 tent before I built this space they did great. It took a 6" 340 CFM fan to keep that little tent cool enough. The other light in my space is a DIY COB light 440w at full power.

This is my DIY COB light:

Here is the little tent with the two leds:
