Fast Buds 1st Grow, FastBuds - Blackberry & Girl Scout Cookies, 250w HPS - Wish me luck...

Jam:

The UFO is a 9 band 270w, then a 300w 2nd generation full spectrum(these lights together really pull 225w at the wall); I ran these lights in my 2.5x2.5x5 tent before I built this space they did great. It took a 6" 340 CFM fan to keep that little tent cool enough. The other light in my space is a DIY COB light 440w at full power.

This is my DIY COB light:

Here is the little tent with the two leds:

Cool setup bro...

And what is this COB light stuff I keep hearing about? @Spanglish mentioned something about making one from an old mars... Whats is it? Whats the diff? And why convert an old mars and not a new one?

Sorry for all the q's

;))

Questions are what this forum is all about! Don't be sorry, keep 'em coming! There are a lot of places that frown on medical/recreational cannabis and have ingrained in us a sort of keep it to yourself attitude and to be secretive.
Let it all go here! Ask questions, post pictures, let go of what "The Man" told you not to talk about!

Before you buy a humidifier, you might try @Yeatster suggestion of letting a towel wick up moisture from a water source and have your fan blow on it. Also, a humidifier may add more heat into your room. Save some dough. It's worth a shot.

COBs are LED's. The acronym stands for: Chip(s) on Board. Basically a lot of LED's on a surface like a PC board. http://www.cob-led.com/What-is-cob-LED-chips-on-board.html for example.

I would not put in a new light until your next grow. I did that once and it freaked out my plants and I got foxtails, light stress, etc. That would also just add another variable in trouble-shooting. I'm sure someone could give you tips on doing it, if that's what you choose.

Have a great weekend!

Wow, just spent a couple of hours reading in to COB's, something for the future I guess. Interesting shit!!

Well there is always something new just about the time you think you are "state of the art".

First of all learn all you can about indoor lighting for cannabis growing. Basically it comes down to the spectrum the plants respond best to (not just PAR as IR and UV play a role), the most photons in that spectrum that you can produce per watt (or whatever measure you want to use) in order to produce the most amount of bud with the least cost for energy. This is an elusive goal that seems to be continually moving.

There is a new LED light out there that seems to have moved the efficiency bar somewhat higher on the order of 30% better than Cree 3590 COBs. The Cree 3590 is the standard that most COB builders measure the competition to. The new lights are not inexpensive but ROI is short based on the numbers. Google Growmau5 this guy is as knowledgeable on LED lighting as I can find. He will gladly share his knowledge with all who seek it. As far as I know he is not invested in the firm that makes the new lights.

It is against forum rules to advocate for a product so you have to dig that name out on your own.

Now I want new lights again and my DIY COBs are just on their first full grow.
:aha:

How are your girls coming along?

Day 55 - Back from my trip

Sooooo, it's been a good 2 weeks since my last post. I'm just back from a hectic trip and it's great to be home!!

While I was away the girls were given 1l of mineral water every 2 days as couldnt get my mate to feed properly so thought I would give an early start to flushing. Today they have been given a proper flush with the shower hose until the water dripped through clean and clear and I expect to cut both down in the next 14 days as I will wait for soil to dry, feed each lady 2l each of mineral water and chop-chop a few days later. Sound about right?

I have to admit though, when I came back, there were a lot of pale yellow and some dead leaves on the gsc, all of which would fall of the plant when touched but as you can see from the pics below, they are juicy resinous buds which a stench to die for... The combo of berries and cookies gives such a beautiful aroma, like wow.... Oh and theres a lovely diesel kinda smell coming from the gsc also which I love, but is that normal? The yield wont be great at this stage, im still learning but on the right path me thinks.

Good news!! I have my MarsHydro400 ready and waiting for my next grow. Theres not much point in switching from the HPS to the MH right now is there? Or is there....???!!!

As usual, your feedback is most appreciated :worship:

Hey bro, i'm back and finally updated the grow ;)))
Good to see you back.

What is the PH of the mineral water? It looks like it might be a little high?
Your plants look pretty good considering the stress they were under with the high heat and low humidity. You should check the PH of your runoff if it is too high adjust it with a final rinse.

Ps. The Fast Buds GSC looks like the fast indica phenotype. I am currently growing 2 Fast Buds GSCs one looks like yours the other was much slower starting but got much larger and is way slower in flowering. It is more sativa like.

See an update later today in my signature thread.

I did think about ph'ing but how on earth do you do that when flushing with 20l of water? The standard ph n my area is about 7.5 which I know isnt great but cant be that bad either, can it?

For the final feed I will ph for sure....
