Druid's little grow thread

The Epsilon has now been curing for a few days. Still a beet green but on it's way to a good aroma, kind of like wet ground tho. hmmm...

Meanwhile in the tent:

The Strawberry Cola on the right is starting to smell really nice and fruity, I'm sure the White Widow smells like something too but the only thing I can smell rn is the tiny plant with the big buds.

IMG_20240706_074203.jpg

I mean, really big buds

IMG_20240706_074248.jpg

I had to take off a few fan leaves 2 days ago, just to appease my moldy paranoia.

IMG_20240706_074259.jpg

Have to water for a bit more runoff on both plants, there are some signs of nutrient imbalances showing. But that's not stopping the White Widow from becoming an absolute monster. Unfortunately she also drinks like a monster, the 12L pot with pure coco is not enough for an entire day anymore. Every morning the medium is bone dry and hydrophobic, so I ordered some 18L pots in hopes that the 50% more volume will calm that down a bit.

BF Mimosa x Orange Punch - Start
Today I planted a new little seed, this time a Mimosa x Orange Punch from Barney's Farm. They had a pretty neat 50% off deal so of course.. I had to

This is what she's supposed to look like, or at least one pheno of it. She's supposed to have 3 different phenos, all varying greatly in yield. One producing some nice fall colors, one being very fruity in aroma but fading to yellow and one regularly colored one blasted with trichomes. There are some people reporting stability problems and herming, soooo that's gonna be.. exciting.

The taste is supposed to be very fresh and fruity/lemony with a heavier sweet note that's almost gasy, which sounds quite nice to me as I'm having the same experience with the GMO Breath I'm smoking atm. If it weren't for that I'd have grown a Moby Dick or Lemon Haze next. But by god I want that fruity fuel with the bang!

Today I've repotted the bigass white widow (official title now), just to give her more water over the day and put the Mimosa Orange into her pot afterwards. Little hand-me-down from the big sister

IMG_20240710_175629.jpg

Unfortunately I only got regular pots, couldn't find mine anymore. Forgot the name of the company and product. These pots are honestly so good, better than airpots. I gotta take a few pictures of the rootball when I chop the strawberry.

IMG_20240710_175651.jpg

Reading all the reports of people' plants being eaten up by botritis has me a little nervous on this one but she looks and smells real nice.

And then there's big bertha over here. I'd love for her to get really thiccc, she's 4.5 weeks into flower now. The constant drybacks each evening/night have not helped her.

IMG_20240710_175716.jpg

I left the Mimosa down in the low light area for quite a while so she could get a long neck.. so i can water easier lol buuut I may have left her down there a little too long, so now she's getting a spot in the sun.

IMG_20240714_183040.jpg IMG_20240714_185236.jpg

As you can see, the white widow on the left is growing. Getting all them gains.

IMG_20240714_183050.jpg

It's a bit weird trying to take pictures of her, she's not just large, the colas are about as long as my forearm and hand. Hard to frame.
That's not a problem I have with the Strawberry here:

IMG_20240714_183057.jpg

She's not liking the lower intensity feed I'm running because of the little one. But nonetheless she's trucking along.

IMG_20240714_183108.jpg

You see the black/red fan on the earlier pics? Damn thing fell on her yesterday, last time I'm buying the cheapest clip fans.. So now I'm shopping around for some actual ones made to clip to tent poles.
Which ones have you made good experiences with?

I've had great luck with my ac Infinity clip on fans, they make oscillating and non-oscillating ones and can be controlled with their controller

Yeah I've seen them in reviews, the S6 Gen2 model does look quite good. Unfortunately you can't get them in germany anymore and the shortest wait-time if 5 weeks. And when I try to order from aci us they want to send it with ups which costs 60 bucks.

Oh no guys, that's not that bad, I'll just wait a bit. I strapped the fan down with a ziptie now, so at least it'll fall straight down. Also rotated the plant so if it does, it won't do anything.

In the meantime I decided to care about another topic. Watering. From my experiences years back I know that multiple waterings a day result in better growth (in coco) (same total volume/day) but that was when I was younger and had a lot more energy. Nowadays I'm happy if I can be arsed to water them once a day.
So I ordered myself a little pump kit and will likely be testing it out today. I got the Gardena City Urlaubsbewässerung, some people reported to still be using the same one 20 years later (sounds so weird for a pump but then I remember that we're 24 years into the 2000s) but more importantly I know of someone who uses it with mineral-based nutrient solutions for 6 years now.
As I am using the Canna Coco A/B fertilizer (and only that at half the regular dose) the only organic parts are in the B, the humic and fulvic .. dust that's dissolved in that. I doubt that'll clog up but the housing can be disassembled and cleaned, so overall good prospects.

also, the mimosa fell over so i staked her

Alright, I tested the pump and set it up, here it is, swimming in nutrient solution

Pretty unspectacular, so let's have a look at the mayhem:

IMG_20240717_143100.jpg

You can see the manifold hanging front and center.. I may have cut the capillaries a wee bit short but that's okay.

IMG_20240717_143108.jpg

You see that distribution thingie? Each one of those ports puts out 60ml/min. The Package contained 3 of those.. but each one has a different flow rate. Noooow me being a bit weird with aesthetics have ordered 2 more of those. Once they arrive each pot will have it's own, and then the lines will be plenty long enough.

IMG_20240717_143116.jpg

You see the attachment points on the case? I'm gonna heat weld some brass inserts into the "backside" of the pots so I can attach/afix one manifold per pot. Then pull the feed lines around the back and from the front you will just see the drippers spidering out from behind as if they were coming from inside the pot.

IMG_20240717_143127.jpg

The power supply of the pump has a timer inside. Once you power the pump it pops on and waters for a minute, then the timer starts and it waters again in 24h another 1 minute. In that one minute each dripper can output 60ml. So 3 lines in the big pot, ~200ml.. per day? Sounds too little.
And it is. Each time you power the wallplug, the pump turns on for a minute. So with an ac timer-plug I just turn it on 10 times a day and get all the water they require.

Never used drippers before, I'm excited. I'm curious to see if 3 is enough to water a pot evenly. Since these are very low pressure, they ought to behave differently to the regular pe/pcv systems.

But I don't want to leave you empty handed, here's what the white widow looks like atm

IMG_20240717_143226.jpg

I really need to increase the nute density again if I want her to be nice and fat. Like her sister, the strawberry cola, here

IMG_20240717_143243.jpg

She's just colas and sugar leaves :woody:

Thanks @Dankerson, it also works a treat. I love it, The plants not being a chore anymore in the back of my mind is quite freeing. But I do need to remember to still visit the tent.. the drain tray on the right one were F U L L. So I took one of it's drippers and stuck it into the white widow.

IMG_20240721_090702.jpg

Which is fattening up quite nicely.

IMG_20240721_090710.jpg

I've been increasing the nutrient concentration over the past 5 days and she seems to be liking it, apart from the light stress at the very tops.

IMG_20240721_090730.jpg

The Strawberry Cola is still cola-ing and smelling like raspberries. I really hope I can finish my drying fridge before she is ready. The hardware is relatively easy, the programming will take a minute.

IMG_20240721_090741.jpg

The Mimosa Orange is on day 12 now. She's not very large for her age, if she doesn't pick up until day 30 I'm gonna have to scrap her. Unfortunately she fell over (the fan) when she was on day 7, soo yeah. Topped her today, above the 2nd node.

IMG_20240721_091054.jpg IMG_20240721_091157.jpg

I've got most of the hardware for prototyping my Kraut-fridge's functionality together, just waiting on a bunch of power related things, will keep you updated on this one: https://www.autoflower.org/threads/diy-automated-drying-curing-box.91914/

IMG_20240726_165644.jpg

I properly mounted the dripper manifolds today. You just melt the brass inserts into the plastic with a soldering iron and then ideally let it cool down. Me, like a total lobotomite, decided to press my thumb onto the first one I set.

IMG_20240726_180903.jpg

Worth it tho, now every pot has it's own and I can just disconnect it at the pump if i want to add or remove a pot.

IMG_20240726_180856.jpg

Right now I have it all running in the front until I get a better feel for how this is going to behave, then I'll turn them around and lay the pipes in the back.

IMG_20240726_180849.jpg

The Strawberry Cola is getting frosty, she's gonna be ready soon. Might have to take a shortcut modding the fridge, might wait and dry it regularly.. depends if i can get the rubber smell out of it.

IMG_20240726_180934.jpg

With a larger res, I entirely forgot about evaporation raising the nute concentration and promptly burned the White Widow's tips but I realized soon enough so she'll be fine.

IMG_20240726_180927.jpg

The Mimosa Orange is sort of behaving like a Cabbage, odd little plant.
