I don’t think you need to go the spinosad route yet. If it gets outta hand, then I’d go for it. But for me BTi and sticky traps works great when the population is minimal. You can use mustard seed too when the plants are a bit more established.
Though for me, having a living soil system seems to keep the gnats in check. I’ve seen a few here and there during my current grow but they have never gotten outta hand. I’ve used some mustard seed meal once and keep sticky traps by the stems. So far so good.

I think the best pest control is normal life you get from your own worm bin.....both predator and no-predator. The predators are not really needed if you have a good population of non-predators.

We got life both Double Grape and Outlier Z have broke the surface they both had a little helmet head but it slipped right off:shooty: No life from Walter White pretty sure I see her trying to bust through but not quite yet.. Unfortunately I saw a few Gnats fly out of the pot when I removed the dome to check.. So as soon as i can give them some water they'll all get treated with BTI.. I might sprinkle some DTE under the covers just to get a head of it and get some nematodes coming:oops1:

Please be careful with those wooden toothpicks. Wood goes moldy very quick in wet soil.

Diatomaceous earth will kill the nematodes and most beneficial critters
I was thinking the same thing. But I still use it in my soilmix. The benefits outway the disadvantages.

OK scratch that idea then  but BTI and spinosad won't hurt the good bugs right?
What's BTI? Spinosad affects the nervous system of insects that eat or touch it. And according to this paper is harmless towards nematodes.

I already removed the toothpicks they were just marking the seeds in case I needed to go digging normally I use something I find in the pot .. Didn’t even think about them molding which they didn’t and don’t think I’ll do it again thanks

BTI= Mosquito bits are small pellets that contain an active ingredient called Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI). BTI is a naturally-occurring bacterium found in soil that's particularly effective at killing mosquito larvae

Lifted from the EPA's site,
Bti is a biological or a naturally occurring bacterium found in soils. (Bti is short for Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis.) It contains spores that produce toxins that specifically target and only affect the larvae of the mosquito, blackfly and fungus gnat. EPA has registered five different strains of Bti found in 48 pesticide products that are approved for use in residential, commercial and agricultural settings primarily for control of mosquito larvae.
