Grow Mediums Steely's first hydro grow. LED DWC.

I was worried that having the black plastic disc around her is keeping heat in, need to get more hydroton to block net pot entirely, light-wise, then that's another heat escape route.

Right now the box is open (she was going for 27C in the bucket again ) and i have a fan blowing on it that's holding her between 25-26.

Can't wait to do hydro in the autumn/winter it'll be so much easier to heat than to cool!

Cheers,

steely

Just a thought, its hard to tell from your pics but could you create a intermediate shelf (removable) just above the pot? This would allow you to control pot and plant environment seperately.

I like that idea. That should cut out some light heat. Then maybe blowing air across the surface of the bucket could help cool it a little more. Little by little things are cooling off.

Just caught back up! As I am sure the Likes will confirm :P

Looks like I've stopped by at the right time. Grats on the roots hitting the bucket, she is just starting to get her GROW on :gthumb:

Steely, I've been reading around about cooling and keeping the res cool/warm with DWC and /NFT. Cut a bit of silver corex for the top so it reflects the light/heat and insulate your pot with a couple of layers of duck tape.
I've done the silver bit on my nft tank and I've got a bit of anti frost plastic I'm going to use with duck tape to make an insulation sleeve/jacket for the next grow.
Should help make controlling res temps a bit easier.

Cheers for the conversion table man, appreciated.

Great suggestions thanks a lot :)

Lifted her out to inspect the roots and measure the mix and two more bits of root broke off, i guess they must get tangled under the airstones or something, hard to tell what's going on in there ?

I suppose that won't be such a problem as the roots grow but right now it's annoying, theses two bits were quite large. PRobably fussing over nothing lol!

I like the shelf idea, i have the brackets there already and i may have some conti board left for the shelf.

And i must do the insulation.

Thanks again for advice :)

Hey steely, she is looking on track so far :) I know what you mean about the roots occasionally breaking, whenever I do hydro I get roots broken off ALL the time, originally I thought it might be turbulence in the water but decreasing the amount of bubbles only had negative effects. When I jump back into hydro over the colder months I'm gonna have to look into super micro pore diffusers which might solve the problem :peace: :Sharing One:

Yes there must be loads of turbulence for a delicate little root. Having said that, i played with the big broken bit and they're surprisingly tough. I'm thinking maybe mine are getting stuck to the rough surface of the diffusers or the central airstone.

I stuck a couple of coolpacks under the air pumps :

I found some aluminium tape and covered the bucket lid and the net pot cover :

Will loook into insulation.

Cheers,

steely.
