Old lowcoast , new grow

Do really small weed seeds mean anything?
Small plants?
Less chance to germinate?
Unless smallness is due to some genetic or environmental problem(s), as long as seeds are fully formed, mature, seed cover is intact and they sprout as expected, the size shouldn't matter. All of our plants essentially start out the same small size when they spout.

Okay
Got pot outdoors ready to go.
Soil is Whitney farms organic, has some kelp, bone meal, and rice hulls and few other goodies

I also added some bio char and some mycro.
Then topped it off with earth worm castings.

Its a self watering pot, was free from buddy.
Question is, do I water the whole pot and medium first? Or just start off with a little water only where the seed will be?

I also drilled some holes all over the pot to maybe help air prun the roots

Any help or advice is welcome

HAPPY EASTER

Also if it's a self watering pot, how does it drain when I water it?
Wouldn't it all go into the reservoir?

Says built in ventilation system prevents over watering and drowning of plant

Is there a reservoir under the pot? I don't see how it works so I haven't got any ideas for ya. Or is there a wick rope from a well under it?

I suggest water the whole pot, and iit can't hurt to do at least a light flush. Presuming the soil drains well (Does it contain enough rice hulls? I don't see any of the usual perlite), there will be no problem (unless your soil mix is off).

From there, if even needed with that larger size pot, you can water around the periphery, away from the stem, to encourage outward root growth; and start the autofeeding, presumably bottom feeding, after about 10 days. Others will say wait until the leaves extend out to the pot's edges. But my view is to encourage roots to grow downward to their water source as soon as possible.

Yeah maybe I need to add some perlite.

Reservoir is under the pot
No wicks, just a reservoir and a ventilation system

Made by a company called mainstay I believe

Ok I googled them real quick. I see what you mean now. So there is a reservoir space in the bottom and the roots are supposed to reach down in there and pull what they need. There should be a "funnel" that you pour water into around the side somewhere. I guess you can't overfill the res and the backpressure would hold the water column back until the plant takes it in.

I think I would water the entire pot to make sure it's at field capacity but I'm a terrible grower so far. Probably need to water like normal until the roots can reach the res at the bottom. I saw on one of the pictures online that there is a removeable inner liner so you can check the roots? If so I think maybe once you see roots all the way down you can start using the res fill instead of top watering.

Do seeds that float when soaking mean anything?
I think not?
Shake the cup, they'll fall down to the bottom after soaking for a while.

And in soil, no matter what kind of watering system, automated or hand, You don't turn the water on or fill the reservoir or fully hand water the pot, until the root system is fully established.

Post up some pictures and links of what you're going to be using.
