I know there is already a ton of threads on this subject but I’m hoping if I put my specific conditions out there someone may be able to help me. My house sits between 30&40 RH. I do not have space to have a humidifier going. Temp is a constant 70. The few plants I’ve tried to dry have either smelled like hay or ended up to dry. Im wondering if I only let buds dry for like 72 hours then put them in a paper bag until they’re 62 RH in the bag if I would see better results. 5 days drying ends up being to long for the buds even though the stalks don’t snap. Which is what I’ve been looking for.

any input would be appreciated

If running a humidifier is not a option then slow drying whatever way you can is best. Putting everything in paper bags will definitely help slow down the drying process.

You can always jar them with a hygrometer to see how dry they are. A 62% Boveda pack is a nice way to get in range. Grove bags or just leave them in the jars for the curing period
This is basically what I’ve been doing. Only letting them dry enough so the sugar leaves are curled then jar them with a hygrometer. I’ll leave the lid off for like 15-30 minutes a day until they’re under 65 then trim. But, when I do it this way it smells ok for a day or two then starts to smell like hay. Smokes really good and is a really pleasant experience, just doesn’t have the smell/taste I would like. The stuff I just overdried actually smells amazing but it’s only 44% rh and dry to the touch. I threw some fan leaves in the jar this morning before work now the hygrometer says 89%, they’re all sticking together and smell like hay. I feel like I’m chasing my tail.

I might be wrong… but it seems like your issue is slowing down your drying process before you would even consider jarring everything. I use Boveda packs and mason jars but only after the buds have dried to a close range.
I don’t disagree. I wish I could run a humidifier but my wife is already at the end of her wits with my tents and lights lol. I really don’t have a place I could set one up and it work though. My tents are all in use and 2 of the 3 are to small.

Lol! I hear you my friend!
Can’t upset the wife.
I don’t have the ideal drying environment either. Got these drying right now in with 48% R/H and 72 degrees. Trying to slow them down!

I don't know this to be fact or anything other than bro science, but I have read that if you put a few bowls of water in there it will help slow down drying.

Brown paper bags have treated me well in similar circumstances. I don't humidify the space I cure in and in the winter its 30-40%. I chop and trim the buds into about golf ball sized nugs. Line the bottom and just leave them in the bag. My last grow they were in the bags for 11 days before I put them in Grove bags and I still had to burp the bags. I've hung branches a few times and they cure waaaay to fast and too dry.
