Concerning my 1000w MH, I asked people how high it should be above the plants since I'll be starting with it from germ.

"100% in ballast all the way or if your worried run it at 50% for the first two or three weeks. I had a 600W at 100% since sprout. Start as high as it goes for seedlings . 40inches+? Adjust lower by the inch every few days. Seedlings can't take as much light, but once my plants were mature I think I ended up around mid 20's for inches from canopy, if you see stress, simply raise them back up an inch or two"

I'm looking to do autos soon for the first time. I did photos before successfully, but some people are telling me I'll be unhappy with yield from autos in comparison to photos. I wanna do 9 autos, but I'm fine with doing around 12 potentially. My space is a 5' by 5' by 2m long tent. I'll be starting in 3G pots and I'm growing in coco coir. Any advice is appreciated.

How long do autos take to grow? 3 months?

Talent of the grower is gonna be an important piece of the autoflower "high ounces yielder". Since you haven't grown auto's previously, the percentages are against you netting high yields. High yields for newbies has certainly happened before and will happen again. Perhaps it will be you besting the autoflower odds. Photoperiod plants have a size advantage over autos and in general terms, bigger yields. It is what it is type situation.

Autos are notorious for burning, so start nutes at 1\4 of the published amount and work up from there. One aspect of autos that I really like is having no light preclusions. Before changing to Autocobs and Quantum boards, I always ran my led lights 24/7 full spectrum and still like that best. Now days I mostly run my lights 20/4.

Which watering process have you chosen, which coco and nutes etc?

I'm aiming for a 20/4 light schedule. DTW will be my method of watering. Canna Coco. Nutes are gonna be Masterblend, but I'm wanting to make a change with those. Worried about weighing them, because the only nutes I ran before were dosed by ml in Canna Coco A+B. Looking for recommendations for which nutes I should get as well. I just ordered 100L of the Canna Coco. Looking to do 12 autos in my space..

Growing photos and autos have very little difference. Biggest issue you'll see with autos is early problems. Large plants require smooth starts. There's no waiting a week to flip.

Honestly, after years of growing photos, autos require a finer touch than photos, that's about it.

Lighting... I haven't run hps/mh in quite a while, and never an auto under it, but have run both auto and photo under my current LED setup, and I don't treat them any differently.
Yield on autos, anyone that tells you autos don't produce hasn't grown an auto in about a decade, or doesn't know what end of the plant to water.

BUT

Size will be up to your strain choice and talent. Choose the larger strains and 4 will fill you space adequately, choose a smaller strain and you'll need maybe 12 or 16. I've had a couple in the last year that I think could have taken up a 4x4 by themselves, and make the weight. They easily busted 10 oz dry when run with others

Right now I have 10 in that space in 1 gallon bags of soil for a seed run... they'll be small girls that maybe hit 2 to 3 oz each. Grown in 3 gallon bags of coco, I might get 6 in there, more likely 4 of the same strains as well.

Not sure were your located, but I would go directly to the breeder when possible. If you go directly to mephisto, the freebies will be their gear, and they've always been more than generous. Coming up on black Friday, they usually have a pretty good sale this time of year. Might do some strain research and get ready... there are many here (I'm one) who have sat up till wild hours of the night to make sure we got the beans we wanted on those sales.

also there are many great auto breeders out there, but also a lot of people just trying to cash in on the "new"

look around, see what people are growing, and also pay attention to who your watching. Weed that pleases my 25 year old son doesn't make the cut to a mid 50s stoner. Dinafem, fastbuds... you can also look thru the breeders area here, we have a few small (boutique) breeders out there as well. I'm currently using a male from one of them to work with some mephisto crosses I've made.
