White fuzzy mold

Well We all learned with the first bud rot. But you will need a closed room, with decent extraction and enough circulation. Prior to looking at cooling or dehumidification solutions.
I am going to research the m3/h and see what i may need to purchase to increase my extraction and circulation and ill get back to you. thanks again

hey guys. First time posting on here, the group seems pretty knowledgeable and that's definitely what I am lacking. I found a patch of white fuzzy mold ( im assuming thats what it is ) at that bottom of the stem coming off the main stock. I am about 6 weeks into flowering. I cut the stem off at the bottom , and cut it in half to see how far up it went. the buds all seem okay with no mold on them. Just wondering are the buds still going to be salvageable after curing or should i throw them and what are the reasons for the mold / how can I prevent this from happening again. I am a first time grower so any and all help would be great. Thanks all

Here are some of my mold pictures for reference.

You can salvage the buds through washing and water curing. To wash it you need 2x 5 gallon buckets. The first bucket is a cup of lemon juice and a cup of baking soda. Swish the buds around in there gentle for 5 minutes. The second bucket is just plain water that you will use to remove any excess from the first bucket.

If you are still concerned about mold then you can water cure it. You need mason jars and RO or distilled water preferably. You put the buds in the jar and fill it with water, put the jars in a cool dark place. Once or twice, everyday, replace the old water and once the water comes back clear you can dry the buds out to smoke.

There will be no aroma or taste at this point.

To prevent mold you need to manage your Vapor Pressure Deficit. https://www.dimluxlighting.com/knowledge/vapor-pressure-deficit-vpd-calculator/

You'll need an IR gun to measure leaf temperature or a Pulse One(doesn't measure leaf surface but performs a calculation). Ambient air temperature, humidity, and leaf surface temperature with the calculator I linked will give you your VPD.

The temperature offset refers to the difference in your ambient temperature versus your leaf temperature. If your ambient is 87f and your leaf surface is 85f that gives you a 2° offset so you pick the chart that corresponds.

Also air exchange is important. What size is your growing space?

Thanks for all the info there ! very useful . luckily no mold on the buds them selves just on the lower stem close to the main stock. The stem also is very dry. The size of the room is 10 by 12. but only using 4 ft of it that has over head lighting installed. with three plants under it.

You need somewhere to extract that air. Do you have fans blowing to keep air moving? I don't like defoliation for the purpose of yield but dense vegetation can be thinned to improve airflow and reduce the risk of mold. I believe @Kyote just did this with some of his OD plants.

Botrytis is a pain. Mold spores love poor air movement, cooler temps, and high RH. I had a bout with a couple of outdoor photos this year. I couldn't do anything about the circulation, RH, or temps, so I lost a couple oz. It will spread so I cut out all the flowers with rot. It's a pain for sure.

If you can trim a few of the larger fans, or better yet, just tuck them in to provide better air flow through the plants. And like what has already been said, environment is important with good air circulation, RH and temps.

Good luck

to be honest, im not sure what that means ! Im a mega rookie when it comes to all this. Iv been learning as i go.

Welcome to AFN :welcome: - great community it is. There is some good information in this thread. The VPD calculator will help you to dial in the temps and humidity. The article will explain the optimum temps/rh for different stages of growth. And yep, move the de-humidifier in there and that will help, along with more air circulating and some sort of exhaust out a window. After you get the right grow environment, a little leaf tucking here and there, and a bit of light defoliation on some strains to keep the plant opened up for circulation, you'll be on your way.

If this is something your going to struggle with regularly, I suggest you get some RotBock on hand. We ran a test about a yr ago here on the site, I was one of the participants. For outdoor where you have no control of mother nature, or indoor when it just cant be helped.

Spray once a week from onset of flower. I ran silly high rh #s to see if it really worked.... it flat out works.

I'd rather see the environment dialed, but sometimes it's just not in the cards.

thank you all very much, this was the first place i looked for help and it'll be my main spot for information from now on. what a great and informative community you guys have going on here. happy to be here
