Mephisto Genetics White Crack and Kis Organics Soil

Amount of soil sounds perfect, good luck with build ...... What ya thinking on the shower cap?
Well I have a couple of ideas. Obviously I can use a heavy Duty Garbage bag. However, I also have another idea utilizing the lid off the Tote. Here is the thing, to me the shower cap is a good idea to keep bugs out and moisture in. But the Earthbox ones are cheaply made and a pain in the ass at times. I want to make the "Cap" easy to access, bug free, and durable. I have 1 of the 12 Gal totes here, but I am buying 4 new ones to make SIPs. I am going to go grab that one I use and brainstorm a little with it in front of me. Creating a Superior way to access and top dress without a cheap Cap is my goal. I am using 2 of the 4 Inch Net pots as my wicking pods, like Earthboxes have. This will put my elevated screen at 4 inches high. I will Drill the Overflow hole below that and I will glue a piece of Screen over the hole to keep potential pests out. I am excited to make these, I actually will go tomorrow and get stuff to make 2 of them. Instead of making 4 right away, I will make 2 tomorrow and see if I want to make sny changes before building 2 more. Will use my Menards gift card and build 2 tomorrow, I might come up with some good ideas while in Menards?! Sometimes you see things while wandering around that store that you can use for other purposes...jusy have to be creative. Peace, slow

You can use heavyduty plastic for the cover. Cut the lid of your totes so that you just have the bit that latches onto the bottom half and that will completely seal.

Check out my post in MOB'ds thread and you will see what I mean for the cap but with the tote lid

Yes, that is the way I would use the plastic/garbage bag idea. If I do that I may also use the lid as the platform that creates the rez and drill a bunch of holes in it. However, I want to make a Superior way to top dress vs the plastic bag....if possible. I have a few ideas, but will basically have to try them out to see if they work better or not. How do you like the cut lid method? I will.go look at the pic to see yours. Peace, slow

Changed my mind looking at the seeds I have. The Purple Rolex #4 Freebies only have 3 of them. Since the G-Roc has 6 seeds I decided to drop 2 G-Roc in water. I kinda want to see what freebies I get Sat, my new Order eill be arriving Sat. If I get more Purple Rolex #4 I will pop them next week. Doing 2 new seeds each week! Gonna try the Purple Rolex #4 in the Homemade SIP, they will have more soil than Juniors so possibly will have bigger plants in them?! We will see. I coukd do a Junior vs Homemade side by side?! Peace, slow

Hey S&E it wasn't my build but this is the post I was talking about.

There are links to some great info for SIP growing and also a bunch of DIY builds on those threads too. Will give you lots of good ideas but also no need to re invent the wheel as there are some great working versions there already.

if you search for "InnTainer-Construction-Guide" pdf you will have a nice build guide too.

Might consider roofing material, 45, 50 or 60 mil EPDM for use as a cover ...... EarthBox has a red cover that is thicker than the black/white cover and I use a Junior and and Original cover over the Junior - might consider for the Juniors you have running, use two covers so at least that issue is solved ......

For Sam I used a piece of 60 mil EPDM btw ..... Good luck with build!

When I ordered a bunch of Juniors I ordered a bunch of Caps. They lady offeted me the Red and I kindly said no. Looking back I think she knew the Red were higher quality and lower cost. Oh well. But for my home made SIP, the Cap wont fit. Not sure if an orginial will fit it? I am kinda hoping my idea will work to eliminate the cap. Snow day today, so I didnt get supplies to make SIPs today. Tomorrow. I need to go get some starter mix too. BTW, I see a SIP at Home Depot for $27 and it is 24x20 in size. Holds 2 gal of water. Sounds similar to an Original, but more Square Shape. Comes with casters. Not a bad deal, they use a giant Rubberband to hold Mulch Cover on. I still can make my own for $10 and want to try...because I know it will work just as well for 1/3 the price. They are called City Pickers and Green is $27 for everything you get is not bad. Check them out. Peace, slow

I was talking about double caps on the Junior - a junior cap and cover over that with an original cap - double cap.

Hey @slowandeasy those City Pickers look worth a try .....

I would do a center transplant ..... I see roots spreading in all directions rather quickly being square almost like it is and we have low wick height, mulch cover and holds 10 gallons or so, claims 1.5 cubic feet which is over 10 gallons - only drawback might be mulch cover, might need to make your own to top dress with any height but no biggie ......

And as you mentioned it’s between the two on quantity as well ..... Looks like a winner slow, good find. Peace, MOB
