Hi,

I'm finishing my first grow and have used the GH drops to measure the pH, take a long time to hit the pH with drops and the test is not correct... I hate the drops, sometimes I need more than 10 tests to get the pH between 5.5 and 7.0 so I decided to buy a digital meter for my second grow but it is not easy to find a consensus between the various models...

I'll probably buy it at ebay because they seem to be much cheaper but have a preference for European sellers, the models that I've been seeing are:

Adwa AD100 - 35 euros on Ebay (EU)

Adwa Waterproof AD11 - 38 euros on Ebay (EU)

Hanna 98107 - 43 euros on Ebay (US and EU)

Milwaukee pH600 - 45 euros in European stores, 29 euros on Ebay (US)

Milwaukee PH55 - 52 euros on Ebay (UK), is the only model which is cheaper in the European ebay

Hanna hi 98103 - 53 euros on Ebay (EU), 39 euros on Ebay (US)

(prices already with delivery)

Which of these models is the best? ... Why?

I do not mind having to calibrate it 3 in 3 months...

Hi mmoloch :) I've only used the Hanna 98103, but can vouch for it. I calibrate it once a month, but its never off by more than .03 from calibration liquids. I just replaced my original unit, but not because it failed.. I dropped it in a bucket of compost tea... brutal...

Waximus, I have found many negative reviews of the Hanna 98103, mainly in the Amazon... but also found negative reviews of all models and brands lol

I have found good reviews of the Milwaukee pH600, is quite expensive in European shops but found it for 26 euros with delivery on Ebay UK, seems to be very accurate if calibrated before use.

After reading several reviews it seems to me that the best choice is the Milwaukee PH55, anyone have any experience with this model to share?

Another model with good reviews is HM Digital PH-200 but would have to order it from China for 65 euros and wait 30 days for it at the risk of receiving it with some problem...

I have the HM digital ph-80 and cannot fault it.

Since new it has never been off when tested with ph7 buffer solution. I have tested it weekly. You will need storage solution for both the ph-80 and 200. but a bottle of this and ph7 will easily last a year.

Here's what I replaced my cheap crappy meter with, it wasn't cheap but I'd be willong to bet its the best pen style you can buy. I believe its states its accurate to .01! Extech PH110 Exstick Waterproof meter. I paid $145.00 U.S. for mine. see them on ebay around $109.00

That's what I said till the one I had started giving false readings and totaly screwed about 6 plants! I'm all about not spending more than really necessary, but this time I said I'm not buying another cheap one. One plant is worth 4 times what I spent on the meter!

I have to agree with Goauto6 the Blue Lab PH Pen is the best on the market but its very pricey. I manage to buy the ph and ec for 164 euros. Which is really cheep for Bluelab considering their ph meter is 200.00 euro by itself in shops in the city. You get what you pay for with Ph pens, so if its cheap i guarantee it wont stay accurate and will brake relatively early. Just remember to consider this when buying a cheap one.

Glad to help, If i had to be really, really fussy and find fault the only two I can see are.

The screen is not back-lit... hardly a fault mind.

Yet its easy enough to see in normal light. It does have a hold function so you don't have to view it in the water just wait 30-60 secs press hold and there is the ph reading. I never bother with this tho as its easy enough to view the screen.

Ph reading is done to a point so 6.5, 6.6, 6.7 / Not 6.5.1, 6.5.2, 6.5.3 etc

Again no issue here form me as when I needed to add lemon juice I done it a drop at a time mixed and repeat. Your soon work out how much you need for your setup to save doing it drop by drop.

That is it, I cannot pick at anything else with this pen.
