I'm setting up a makeshift growbox, its a very self contained unit and the fans will be blowing in air from outside the unit. I understand that the smell during flowering is going to be DANK but is there any way to keep the smell to a minimum without having to spend $100 on exhaust?

Wh n you blow air in then air will come out.. And if that air smells then it will smell.. There are a few threads around here on DIY scrubbers try doing a search and that may help you out

Hello mate

Hydro/grow shops sell an odour absorbing gel, I've not tried it.

Masking the smell with plug in air freshers sort of works.

The main reason for extraction is to control heat and humidity, a grow box full of plants may stifle the air flow from your fans supplying your air. Extraction (exhaust to you Americans), is the best way to change the air in your space.

What sort of temps are you dealing with? You guys have such a wide range of ambient conditions over there.

I live in the upper Midwest, which basically means summers are about 21°C with mild humidity and harshly cold, very dry winters. My first grow will be right in between those two conditions during the fall and I want to have everything ready to go for when the time comes

Thanks for the advice! I just looked up a DIY. To be honest, even the DIY scrubbers cost about as much as a regular one. I might as well stop being a cheap ass and make my first grow successful

Sounds simular to the uk. You won't have massive issues with temp control then.

I did a grow on the cheap to convince the wife it was worthwhile.

2nd grow with some money spent on better equipment doubled my harvest.

I justify the cost of grow equipment by comparing the price of weed.

Or you can try low odor strains like Blue Mystic I am growing right now. I have a odor eliminator in the room and have fan circulate the whole room. No smell at all for me.

Funny enough I actually ordered Blue Mystic last week xD I'm getting x2 Blue Mystic from Nirvana, x2 Crystal Meth from Fast Buds, x2 Pineapple Express from Barney's Farm, and x2 feminized freebies of some sort
