New Grower Vegasbear's Noob Growing Adventures

Just to respond to your question a couple posts up, the stem under the seed leaves (coytledons) will grow roots when buried, above those is like the "trunk" where the risk of stem rot comes,
some people will top up there pot with more medium, or add a top dress a some point,
Plants are looking good :goodluck:
Thank you! That makes sense. I'll just leave it be for right now

Last night all pots got 1/4 gal each spread out up to ~2" from the plant. They're all much happier today. Soil is still slightly moist but will probably get watered tomorrow.

Right now I'm giving 1/2 gal every other day. Soil feels slightly damp about second knuckle deep.

What should I be looking at, watering wise, at this point? I figured out that when they get sad looking, they want water, so that solved that mystery. Lol.

I'm not a coconut :haha: but I believe you should be watering more often, and it's time to start introducing nutrients if you haven't yet,
Unlike soil, pretty sure the top of coco should never look bone dry, many coco growers go the automated route because of the watering schedule, some daily, some multiple times a day,
Hopefully someone with coco experience chips in :goodluck:

I agree with you. Looks pretty dusty. I put in a liter of feed water in a 3 gallon pot once a day at that age. If you aren't feeding yet you should start. I judge watering by how much runoff I get back. Once they drink what you're giving them without returning any runoff I step up the frequency and/or volume.

I have been feeding with FF Grow Big and Big Bloom on every watering from just after the cotyledons opened at 1/4 strength using the suggested hydro schedule after talking with the FF folks via email. I have read about no nutes for first two weeks, and feeding from day 1 and since it seemed there were so many differing opinions I figured out I would just do it and see what happens. Currently at 3.75ml/gal Big Bloom, 2.5ml/gal Grow Big, and 4ml/gal Cal-Mag on every watering.

I will increase my watering, as I was unsure about watering to runoff. QUESTION - Should I start watering to runoff at stage? I have beenn watering with a 1/2 gal pump sprayer, because I wasn't sure if watering with a can and getting the leaves soaked was a good idea.

I found it hard to water by hand with any sort of can or pitcher. I bought some squeeze bottles labeled for watering succulents. They work nice to get under everything and not spray the leaves too much. I was making a huge mess with my shower head watering can.

Oh nice! I'll hit up the local nursery tomorrow and see if they have anything like that, thanks!
