Topping vs Training

What's up fellow stoners and cannabis cultivators :smoking: It's been a minute since I've had an active thread and I just so happen to have these 2 beautiful ladies.

Both Forum Stomper bred by Mephisto Genetics. Germinated and moved to soil together about 10 days old now pretty well twins but everything about the one in the air pot is bigger, so why not a vs run. I will be topping the plant in the airpot and only training the one in the fabric pot. The topped plant will see some training as well. I have been seeing alot of questions about topping vs training I hope this thread will help answer some questions out there. I will update on feeding days and any time they receive any training and on topping day which is already close. I am expecting great things from these ladies. :headbang:

Well i chopped the trained plant last night and she was ready

As you can see from the frame she was full of vertical branches from the training.

This is my preferred method of growing I normally get more weight out of them but a big well trained plant can quickly consume space.

Thanks for tagging along and as always another great run with Mephisto Genetics

View attachment 1053008 I think the trained one looks best. I’m getting ready to run my first ever auto run. Trying to get some info. And it’s good you mentioned the “air-pot” I got 5 of them 7gal. For the autos. First time using them also. I grow in “totes” in the grow room. But thinking of getting some 20gal. Airports for the next photo grow. I’m running a Electric Sky ES300. And killing it.

Do you know yet which one you prefer. Topped,or trained?heres a little of my current grow. 4 plants,,just harvested 2 of them 3 days ago.

I apologize I did not see this post untill now, not sure how I missed it. Great looking flowers. I definitely prefer a well trained plant over topped. I like to run 8-9 at a time in my 5x5 so its normally a combo of topped, trained, and natural just to fit them all in.

Awesome grow! The plants look great and the yield looks hefty.

At what day from sprout did you chop each at?

Thank you. :bump: The topped plant went about 74 days and the trained one 84 days. I definitely had 2 phenos the smell and bud structures are different

Ahh cool. I have a Dark Devil at day 78 that can be chopped any day now and a white widow at 74 which could probably use another week or so. Both topped, and the white widow looks similar in structure to your tipped one. The Dark Devil ended up stunting early and stayed short with 6 colas.

Interesting how each plant is it’s own journey.

Wow great grow. That topped plant really was a rocket when she took off. Would of been nice if the other plant wasn't hit with the co2 so hard and stun it, but fuck it that's life. It would of been a good race. :bong:

Nice plants bro. When did you top her? After 2 weeks?

Speaking to the thread topic I can say that in my hydro set up, after being convinced that topping is the way to go because of regular huge yields of quality bud, I have been surprised to discover and so far even though I've only done a few bend over grows that it appears I can get the same result from the same strain, it's often difficult to tell because there are so many different ways that different strains grow and even the same strain can grow differently in the same medium, but with all that said, so far I'm not seeing any loss, which I wasn't expecting.

If you know how to grow a good plant then I think the results of topping or bending over would be the same, but for me these days, it depends on what will be more fun for me to do. Topping is a bit predictable, but bending a plant over is more dynamic because you can bend her in various directions for a different effect so if a plant is growing willowy with long internodes then to me that's asking to be bent over, but is she is a squat rigid little annoying pig with large broad leaves then topping seems to be the best way to deal with this, though if you are going to bend over a plant like this then you have to start young and make some early decisions about which branches to cut off.
