Hello everyone , just been researching into topping my plant or fimming her.
So this is what i have concluded

Topping : is cutting of the new growth at the top of the stem completely removing the node allowing 2 new ones to grow .

Fim :is when you cutt 80% of the new growth leaving the base of the node and stem , apparently this can allow for 4 new ones to grow.

here is a photo i made of my girl

Can someone please let me know if i am correct , before i go chopping my new growth

Well its simple and easy i would Fim her cause the worst which can happen when You fim her wrong is that You topp her. When i have Photoperiods i fimm them several times to develope at least 8-12 Heads. Works good so far only had a few times where the fim ended in a topping.

to stress or not to stress Auto's???

can we get weigh in from the experts please. Autos plants-to stress or not to stress???
I have limited space with some large (much larger than planned) plants.
Two of them have HUGE fan leaves. I want did accidently break a couple when trying to bend them out of the way, and the plants dont seem to have suffered any ill effect. Bending them doesnt work, they just keep bouncing back.
I am at day 45, growing 3 pants, one of each auto wappa, autoa whiteberry and carmello. DWC (inidividual buckets) under a 230watt HPS lamp. Going to try and add side lighting, but I think I need to thin out the fans leaves.
Advice please

Hey Sassy
I'm not an expert yet but I did take 3 auto's that were in the flower stage and trimmed all the fan leaves off and I mean all of them and not one of the plants stressed . But it's still your call and if you don't feel comfortable doing it than don't . :goodluck:

That's been my experience, too. I will always FIM, and one out of every 5-6 plants will only produce 1-2 tops. All the others have been 4 tops, from FIMing.
Now, regarding plucking, topping, FIMing with autos, sue....
I know some folks do it, but I have had NO luck with "torturing" my autos, save for LST- tying the branches down, using pipe cleaners, to open up the plant center and get the under branches into the light.
In my opinion, only remove leaves that are close to dead, or dead, on an auto. The ruderalis in them tends to make them hard to keep from stressing when they're picked and prodded.
And, Welcome to AFN, sue!

Id just like to point out one thing. You wont notice if you have stressed your plant by doing one of these two until you get to harvest. The signs of stress can sometimes never be visible but your yield at the end will let you know if your stressed the plant or not.

Im scared to do any kind of training to my auto. Its my first auto grow so a part of me wants to just let it grow normal. But the photo period side of me wants to train it at least LST.

Anyone have any experience training their autos?

This is what I do rather than FIM or top my plants ... starting at about 10 days or the size in the photo . I do them for about 3-6 hrs at a time 2-3 times per plant ... less light may require more lifted time.
