I'm with ya on the getting in with the hands Doob! There's something relaxing and satisfying about the process. I think one thing worth mentioning about TLO, is that when starting off, less is more. If someone shares their super soil mix with you, try to make yourself back off the strength a little until you find out how your particular plants are going to react to the mix. There are so many variables that can affect how the micro beasties process the food. Temps, moisture, light...etc. and in TLO, you are feeding the soil and micro organisms, and in return they give the plant what it needs. If you throw in too much, you can kill the micro life or have too much for them to process and burn the plants or cause lockout. Just think about how nature works.....natural decomposition of organic matter by the micro life in the soil is a continuous slow process where all the dying plant matter, insects and animal remains are processed into the soil from season to season. So no strong nutrients are inserted into the soil quickly...ever. So start out low and slow and become familiar with your plants and they will let you know when to add amendments. If you want to experiment, set a plant or two aside and make amendments or teas and see how they react before subjecting the others.

The main thing though is have fun and don't be afraid to kill a plant or two...or a few dozen...:p

And composting is an easy process if you have the room...just read a few papers or books and jump in with both feet.

Okay bubble ISO hash is blurring the thought process....so peace and good growing!

duffpup, while I agree that being too aggressive can be harful, none of the recipes listed in the TLO/supersoil thread will produce any of the negative results you have mentioned as long as they are given proper time to cook. These recipes don't start with a microbe "seed" that has to grow geometrically to become effective (even though they will reproduce in that capacity). Lot's of microbes are manually amended into the mix. All that is required is enough time to allow the microbes to process the nutrients so the raw nutrients do not burn the plants.

Watching the plants and attempting to guess/investigate whether it's lockout or defiency, If defiency, what is missing? How much? Then you add straight ferts to your TLO? None of that lines up, sorry.

The main thing though is have fun and don't be afraid to kill a plant or two...or a few dozen...:p
We are teaching people to avoid killing their plants... not encouraging them to. I bet it is just as much fun for me and I haven't killed any of mine (maybe more fun... far less stressful if I need meds). :peace:

Sorry, but I don't think I presented any misinformation. I should have said any additions are made through top dressing or teas. Not really a soil amendment. And I have seen different strains react differently to the same soil mix, not just with me, but many other growers.

And I did not mean to imply that I was encouraging anyone to kill any plants. I have killed a few myself, and have seen many others make mistakes and kill some as well. But I don't know any that have enjoyed it by any means. I think you may be the only grower I have communicated that has never killed a plant, so I commend you for that. Successful grows are always way more enjoyable for sure!

Peace.

The only one bad thing about any recipe I know of on here is that of the super soil(Subcools)mix.only rea lissue that Ive read about only is that it provides a lot of N even near the end of the grow that cant be flushed at all or well if I remember right.other than that Im cooking two types of recipes I got here that were cheap ,and they sounded awesome. So looking forward to using them on my second outdoor run this season along with Teas on both runs. And indoor.Im pretty sold on the TLO way of growing since all the old salts in my younger days grew that way when I worked in the Tree farms and nurseries in Florida years ago.Thank god for AFN or Idda had to read like 4-6 books to gain what Ive gotten here. :wiz: :smokeit:

Thanx guys I understand what both are saying..firat gowers do have a fear of killing plants and it can be stressfull you must remember to have fun and its ok to try things...and you was saying there is no fear needed as long as it cooks right and instructins are follwed. Both great points...like kenny rogers chicken ..its the wood that makes it good..slow cookin.LOL well wed ill get my first start on soil ameds..i found some stuff that was like a all in one pouch il post some pics so i can get ya feel on it..this is like clef-notes for TLO lol:list:I would love to experiment..growing different angles ..size pots ..a dwc..but some peeps dont have places or money to get seeds..after getting soil right getting good old school genetics for meds will be a main goal.right now i have 9 seeds and no money to get more.Blew the wad on leds hope it pays off!:peace:
