If memory serves me right Im fairly certain it is organic and does help with pests as well.

Hi everyone,

Is diatomacious earth orgainc? can you put it in there to help with pests?
hahaha... I have so much crap in my mix, I've forgotten half of it! Yes! DE would probably be the first choice, actually. I don't have any right now but my mix is full of it. I need to get some. It's probably about time for me to start mixing a little back in again, when I re-amend. Thanks for reminding me.

Nice thread Tester. This is my method of grow as well and will never go back to chemical ferts. The difference in smells and flavors is almost indescribable. And that goes for all the veggies as well. Nothing like the tastes of TLO grown tomatoes and cantaloupes.

I'll post my soil mix somewhere...and I encourage everyone to start recycling their soil and get or build a compost bin. The recycled soil just keeps getting better and better.

awesome freakin thread brotha!---i also am a organic grower, vegan organics to be precise. i do not like chems, but have had to use them in the past because they were cheaper than my normal brand which is GH organic line w/out the fish stuff...i use a soil less medium, Sunshine Advanced promix #4...i also love thier ssa super hydro which drains almost like perlite...lol both contain mycorrhizae (and i inoculate my medium w/ mycorrhizae)or as i like to say, mycro fun-guys... i do not amend my medium, i strictly feed my funguys the GO schedule (i do tweak it for different strains depending up on the plants needs)...i also get my pots cooking up to a week before which leads me to a question, do you amend your soils w/ P before you plant/ the reason i ask is i have read that it can make your funguys lazy. so i was curious to your thoughts...

when i switch to bloom i flush real well and add my bloom nutes, i believe you were saying you mix all your needs at once...have you ever started w/ a N rich soil and then upcanned into soil amended strictly for blooming?

Hey bro, great to see you!

You are using a "bottle and bag mix" method that uses non-chem additives which is a "feed the plant" method, which is okay, just very different from what I do.

I don't give much thought to the plant when I'm making/amending my mix... I am only considering the health and vigor of my microbe population. To have an healthy, thriving microbe population, they have to be fed. The better they are fed, the happier and healthier they are. Everything I do as far as amending is done strictly for that purpose without any thought toward the plants that will share the space with the microbes from time to time. When I do put a plant in it, I make sure I do what is needed/most beneficial to the microbe population... give them water and some carbs along the way... but, not much.

I have spent maybe $200 on my mix and amendments in the last 18 months... I still have at least $75 of the amendments left and they will last me another 6 months easily... that produced about 75 gals of mix I have been rotating through grows since then. When re-amending the mix after use, you use much smaller amounts and, with some amendments (i.e. oyster shell/rock phosphate) you only need to replenish once every three or four grows.

I hope that was an answer... :D

I am a novice about 5 weeks into my first grow. I have been interested in TLO for a couple years but only now have been able to start.I like what i am seeing so far. My point in posting is to share a source i found for amendments. I am in no way connected, it just seems promising (I have an order pending). They have a flat rate $7.99 shipping up to 40lbs to california. The weight of amendments adds up fast and this is a killer deal compared to what Ive seen shopping around. The place is groworganic.com. I hope making the plug is ok.
