Hey all, as some of you may know I still have a month or so before I can start my second grow. Therefore I have lots of prep time to think about what I want to do. I've already set my heart on a single plant/pot recirculating DWC system. I've been researching bubblers retailing around 50 but they seem pretty basic.

I got to thinking and after some research I realised one of the most important features of the set up is the tray or large netpot which is constantly top fed - and I don't like the look of the rectangular one in the previous link. I then started to wonder what would make the best "large" netpot and came to the conclusion that I could use one of my 15L Airpots providing it fits inside a 20L DWC bucket (the only size I have available to me for free). So i started to read again, couple threads on afn and elsewhere and came across this beast of a set up, similar to some I've seen on this forum but designed for one huge plant, and it even incorporated a 6L airpot!

Obviously, this set up looks awesome but I find it rather pricey at 160..I want to use the same idea but just with a 20L bucket to start out rather than a 90L resovoir.

Did a few measurements earlier and the Airpot WILL fit inside the bucket acting as a huge netpot to be top fed. Basically I just wanted to get some opinions on this set up because I can;t find anyone doing the exact same thing (so far). I love a good DIY project so would appreciate some feedback, I'm just worried about fitting a water pump inside the bucket along with airstones but thats a dilemma for later on I guess.

If the space turns out to be limited my back up plan is to convert my water butt into a large DWC bucket and place the Airpot on top of that. It's a 100L tank so depending how low I chop it up, I can have a pretty deep reservoir for those roots to go swimming :D. I'm aware that this is a long rambling post (been treating myself to some Northern Lights Blue got me on a nice level :D) so if I get time later I'll draw some sketches and add a couple photo's about what I have in mind - should help to illustrate my schemes Cool:

Take care for now :peace:

You don't have to use a water pump. You could just make an "airlift"
using the smallest and cheapest airpump will work (lifting the nutes/water up to the top of your grow medium.
That's what is used on the gemini you linked to.
Peace
