La Buena Hierba The Theory of AF Origins.

These questions have only led to one answer,
The Auto-Flowering Trait was a mutation during the evolution of early Cannabis...

Having been born and raised in the region of this world where we have a blazing midnight sun all through the summer, the thought that this particular trait in cannabis may have a history in the region is just something that makes a whole lot of sense to me. Its a natural thought to make, is this plant an adaption to a far northern habitat? Seeing as all signs seems to point towards that the "earliest male pollinates"-theory is flawed, I am leaning more and more towards the idea that we may be looking at an ecotype of cannabis here. After having seen it grown with my own eyes deep inside the arctic circle, it makes even more sense to me. I have been reading about what Russia and the Baltic region must have been like the last 10000 years and how it has changed, its apparent that there has been several warm periods.

Cannabis ssp. Hyperborealis (far northern variety) ????

1st of all thanks Wiz for this site!
Im sorry for my english.

There isn't full classification of autoflowering cannabis yet

The word AUTO means automatic and not depend on light/day length at all !
but
there are different reasons to induce flowering for different plants

Some plants flower after reached some number of internodes.
others are flower after vegetation for constant time.
AND BOTH are autoflower but I don't know who is "true"

there are another group of plants which flower when light/day become shorter but its still long (18 or 20 hours), these plants must be callled photosensitive. isn't it autoflower? In photosensitive part of AFN there are REGULAR(12/12) plants...for me its wrong :finger:

we should end poly-names and keep each word with its description.
this will help a lot to work much better for breeders and enthusiasts all around the world.

for example

affie is light-sensitive
thyphoon is semi-AF
lowrider and typical ruderalis are autoflowering.
Lowrider cannot be TRUE coz there isn't such place on the earth where cannabis grow without night.

Agree/disagree why?

I hope to keep this conversation going constructive as much as possible.
Thank you for your time
Peace!

Lowrider cannot be TRUE coz there isn't such place on the earth where cannabis grow without night.

What do you mean by true? True autoflower?

You haven't been north of the arctic circle have you mate? It's light outside for 24 hours a day. Granted the growing season is very short.

If lowryder came from finola then it is conceivable that it is "true" since finola was developed in Finland where there are long days with little darkness.

A true autoflower will flower with no change in light. Lowryder does this.. So i am a bit confused. Any good auto hybrid will also do this. Maybe you have been un lucky to buy some of the knock off auto flowers.

We can debate a "classification system" all we want, but it's up to the breeders to be honest about strains in the end.. How often does that happen?

Besides a plant doesn't need a natural habitat for it to be a breeding tool. Most indoor strains are many many generations removed from any kind of natural habitat. All lowryder has to do is breed true for the auto trait.

I found that "TRUE" AF description here at AFN http://autoflower.net/forums/content.php/120-Definition-of-True-Auto-Flowers
for me true is something what is positive and right for nature rules; something what makes sense;
actually I don't think the word true can be used for AF descriptions. At least now its wrong.

Bailer, looks like you're joking about north circle. if not please show us prooflink please
Maybe you have been un lucky to buy some of the knock off auto flowers.
I don't buy, only grow ;)
the breeders to be honest about strains in the end.. How often does that happen?
I don't want to talk here about bad karma people - don't interesting in it.
Remember sacred plant is the one!

Don't you know some ruderalis is cloneable but it force flowering immediately after root. and its near impossible to keep mom in veg
Is it ok for AF ?

I'll continue

tomb ryder - photosensitive
northern sun - semi AF
sweetheart - autoflower

June Solstice (approximately June 20-21)

This day begins summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere. This day is the longest in the year for the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest for the Southern Hemisphere.

North Pole: The North Pole (90 degrees north latitude) receives 24 hours of daylight, as it has been daylight at the North Pole for the last three months (since the March Equinox). The sun is 66.5 degrees off of the zenith or 23.5 degrees above the horizon.

Arctic Circle: It is light 24 hours a day north of the Arctic Circle (66.5 degrees north) on the June Solstice. The sun at noon is 43 off zenith.

Here is a good link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_sun

If your 60N you should have longer days too. Surprised i am being called out on this one.. Where's a fin when you need him.. OR even a nory ;) If we are going to split hairs then yes it not TRULY 24 hours of light. You get a dusk/dawn effect for a few hours.. I'm not that worried about it.

Edit: As JM would say here is fly over with nuke!!!! I rest my case.
A quarter of Finland's territory lies north of the Arctic Circle and at the country's northernmost point the sun does not set for 73 days during summer.

73 days is enough to finish an auto!!

I sure do.. Let me point you to my profile again. http://autoflower.net/forums/member.php/2-Bailer\
I have pics in there of my auto grows. I know all about them mate.

Our fellow AFNmember John Mendello has a thread on here where he cloned LR2. As well as bombbudz who cloned an autoAK.

The sativa dom AF hybrids can be cloned and will get to a respectful size.

I'll continue

tomb ryder - photosensitive
northern sun - semi AF
sweetheart - autoflower

I am still confused. Are you saying that the "wording" in the definition of the auto article needs to be changed?

I'm a bit confused as well... what bailer said is true... artic circle does have a period during the summer when it recives 24 hours light... "autoflowers" as I understand the definition... flower independent of lght cycle... they will flower under 24/0 and they will flower under anything less than that (provided there is enough lght for basic functions (ie photosynthesis).
In regards to cloning... yes its possible... its tricky.. but possible... see my thread:

http://autoflower.net/forums/showth...t-be-done...-Or-can-it?highlight=cloned+they?

hope w have cleared some confusion for you?
Apparently theres a bad rep out there floating around for autoflowers... my friends and I kid around everytime we smoke a bowl of my auto-berry.... "Dude, I can't smoke this ditch weed!" lol it cracks us up because last blueberry I grew produced 84 grams dry (3 ounces) and was COVERED in crytals... blueberry flavor is killer and the buzz... is allllll blueberry!

heres a link to that thread as well:

cheers m8 for the challenge!

Are you saying that the "wording" in the definition of the auto article needs to be changed?
I do not pretend to be first/last violin :)
I only want to understand how we can call and classified plants.
English isn't my native language so many english words became grow terms and are very useful

Yes Bailer :) but there (as @ north pole) is no wild cannabis growing and even LR isn't cultivated (only Arcticsun did testdrive with success almost there. We can ask him about night there - I don't remember currently degree )
Bailer, may I ask are you from Finland?

GG - photosensitive
ovela ratsastaja - semi-AF
G13 X Haze - regular

so we can say that its ok to clone any AF plants as regular ( even less sense in it)
before I thought that its impossible to clone semiAF plants coz I tried 2 times ~50 cuts from 6 early/AF hybrids and none of them rooted :(
your note means that its possible at good conditions. I'll try again this year.
Thank you John Mendello and Bailer

hey AFN! Interesting are there any other minds?
