Well The Fog isn't doing well but I am going to say it's from the ammended reused soil, the Northern Skunk [HASHTAG]#5[/HASHTAG] from Wicked Pissah is doing great but it is in fresh roots organics same with all the Sweet Nurse and oldest 2 Kush. I think I am going to go hydro just can't keep buying dirt non stop for 12 plants, the youngest kush didn't seem to mind it but not trying to deal with nutrient imbalances from some strains. The Fog is just kinda bent over it doesn't look bad it just won't turn towards the light for 3 days and it only got watered once while planting it still felt pretty moist but I gave her a tiny bit more before pulling am sure it's just the soil.

I do want to get a pot or two with LOS for taste comparison some day. Working in building soil now. But for ease and consistency, I love hydro.

Hey Frenjamin! Have any recommendations for a tent my size (2x4x5')? I was looking at building my own nothing fancy with just a cheap pump. How much water do you normally use for yours and how frequently?

I just use simple bubble buckets. I use 8 gallon. A lot of people use the totes and they work but if you want to spend a little extra the Ropak buckets with the Current Culture lids with 8” net pot make for a really slick setup. Makes it easy to manage light leaks and adding nutrients. I’ve often wondered how much water I go through and it’s probably less than a soil grow. I don’t change my buckets ever. And because the system is sealed ( more than an open dirt pot) I get a lot less evaporation. So only what the girls drink.

I don’t add any water for at least 4 weeks and they maybe drink down a gallon in that time. I’d bet a soil grow goes through a lot more than a gallon of water in the first four weeks. Things get heavy as they start the stretch and all through flower so you know how that goes.

A lot of the methods that I use are well against the norm of what you will see out there. A lot of people have huge air pumps and all sorts of calculations for air volume. I’ve run an entire 100 day 8 gallon DWC with a $8 2.5 watt air pump from Wally World.

I suggest trying a dirty water 5 gallon DWC bucket of your own making to try it and see if you like it. I would definitely try a smaller strain. Everything goes huge in DWC. If you get a big Dutch Pasdion beast in a 5 gallon DwC you might empty the buckets real fast. Forget all the fancy top off reservoirs and crazy top water this or that.

I’m not smart enough to tell you this way is better than that way or guarantee what will and won’t work. All I’ll suggest is try it, go lite on your nutrients and see what happens. Best part of DWC is if shit hits the fan, pump out half to dilute. Pump out all to change. No need to run 3 times the pot volume to flush and wait 3 days hoping it makes a difference. Bugs ? Do t know where they would live but I’ve not seen one since I started and it’s a basement grow.

Does it taste worse? Better? I’ve had no complaints. Does it take longer, yup but for an increase in yield and ease of control I’ll take it every day.

I’d say try your favorite strain side by side, dirt/ water. You know that strain best and know what she should look like. You know how it should taste and can compare side by side. Side by side DWC/ dirt would have me glued to the show. Give the DWC two weeks extra all else being even.

FWIW I keep my rooms below 80f so water chilling is not an issue with 6-8 hours of dark. Not sure if that fits your style. 24/7 with HPS probably not going to be a success. If your environment is already dialed in DWC will slide right in.

Not sure if any of that was helpful. Sometimes I type without thinking. Fooked most times I talk without thinking.

2x4x5 I’d go with s small Mephisto. Very small. The FCs I tried to fit in that small closet out grew it fast. You’d be jam packed with one good DWC in there. Also watch out for quick strains, I’m not sure how they would work in DWC since it starts a little bit slow and then takes off.

Thanks @Frenjamin Banklin ! That was very helpful! What nutrients are you using? I will probably half to wait a few weeks as I am buying all new nutes for this too, will use distilled water till I get an ro system. I was actually looking at that same pump and am all about cheap but effective, started with cfl and although it was a pain having to adjust the height and water every 3 days it got the job done!

I use MC1 but many are running MC2 in DWC. You could probably do the whole run with the free sample, I don’t use much st all.

You could run a little one plant DWC experiment real cheap BP — a clean reservoir is just 3.5 gallons away. Frenjamin runs naked whereas I change the nutrient weekly and run an air pump, but you can experiment what works for you. I’ve been running bigger buckets but it isn’t necessary for the DWC size, plenty of room for the roots in here.

$6

$3 I recommend the wide lip, uses less clay pellets Amazon product ASIN B0049XIIGC
Don’t skip this:
$9

Go heavy on the calmag with RO or distilled. You probably already know this but I find DWC needs even more.

@Frenjamin Banklin @davisgirl Thank you both so much for taking the time to help me out! It was a bit intimidating at first but I think I have an understanding of what is needed now. I think that is a good idea starting with one I am excited to try this! Only have enough for soil for the 3 more I need to start but then I am building a dwc bucket for when I chop another kush which should be pretty soon here.

Here is some bud porn, buds just went into jars today to cure.
