Indoor Taproot pruning Experiment - Baby

welcome aboard, nah I only took off the tip so as to encourage side-branching so there would be nothing growable from it.
There is some oddball cloning science going on in the mythbusters thread.. cell propigation etc,

Waày over my head .. but would be interesting to know what root cuttings could do?

Hmm

Here's the latest draft of the cardboard growbox

This one is for sure only suited for a single cob. To hang a mars2 400 in there I'll have to reinforce it a bit.

Go for it lads, experiments mean we learn things. Good or bad, we learn and share....................eP.

Are you building an interior frame? Pvc? Would copper tube be enough? It costs a bit more but might be stuffer if u use thick wall pipe.

Exactly! Gotta break some seeds to make bud.

I could, in fact, I already planned what I'd need, the load it could support (bout 30kg using 2cm pcv tubes) and what it would cost me (~12 bucks).

(they are a bit shiny but meant to be pvc tubes)

BUT.. this box is supposed to be part of my "get growing for 100 bucks" thing I wanna write up separately(I can actually get everything I need to grow weed for 100 bucks and seeing as I spent a few g already I want to show people the cost effective alternatives that work just as well), so I think I'll go with a simple crossbeam dealio.. after all, the cardboard supports itself, so why add more than there needs to be (this way would cost 3bucks if it were done using pvc instead of some random wood pieces). That's a quarter of the alternative and serves it's purpose just as well I think.

Here's a sneak peak:

Here's the latest on the experiment:
Day 21: The dwc plants are having mayor deficiencies. I'm not too worried, hadn't actually counted on them surviving anyways.. I'm a coco guy and just can't be arsed to keep a dwc system alive. So far the plants who were not root-pruned are still ahead in terms of growth (3 & 4 in the line-up). But I suppose any data is good data.
These will be the first occupants of my new growbox once it's operational.

Somango Day 104:
They are big and they are bushy. I'll try to take some clones.. and reveg them at the same time which is the entire reason I'm building the box in the first place.

From the sides they look like little slim little towers but when you look from the top they actually have a pretty large footprint.

Wow, 104 day! They look fantastic. How much longer do you think?

Yeah, I flipped them rather late (the Somangos are photos). They should be done in early December (day 45 of flower atm).

I DUN DID IT

I have in fact finished and am testing my cardboard browbox. This box cost me ~15 bucks in materials and so far is performing better than I had anticipated.

I moved the experiment into the box (left side root-pruned at 5cm, right side unpruned)

There's 3 rolls of fuckttape in or rather on this box. I made sure to get every nook and cranny. For those who worry (the cardboard "extrusions" the fixture hangs on have a metal bar in the middle, in addition the mains cable is almost taught, if the lamp falls.. it will unplug itself (that's why it's positioned to awkwardly in the room))
002.png

Of course airflow is important so I have more than enough intakes and a 10cm exhaust going into the main tent. So this box has bout 50cf/m of air going through it... and people as me why I don't use blower-fans, lol.

You know the best thing? It's accidentally a perfect veg box.

The temp on this side of the room is 4°c lower than in the main tent, so the same 15g/m² of water give me a much lower vpd of .64 instead of 1.17 in the tent. And by chance, this is actually perfect.
