OLD REVIEWS Strain stability and excellence

I got a 3 pack each of Think Different and Blue Auto Mazar. I got a 4 pot Auto-pot system to try them out. I'm also going to have a couple Creme da la Chem, (my favorite Mephisto strain). I need to get my ass in gear, but I might have just broke my toe, (I dropped a 1/2 gallon mason jar full of weed on it).
Sorry about the toe, I hope that heals quickly for you. I've been curious about Creme de la Chem, closest I've gotten to it so far is as half of a cross in a freebie (the other half is Skywalker OG).

Buying directly from Mephisto, I bought 12, received 20, plus another 15 freebies. The price per seed went from $15 each down to a little over $5 each. It is WAY easier to forgive Mephisto when a seed doesn't pop or pops and then fizzles out or randomly mutates (I've had all of those things happen) when they are so generous with their seeds!

Getting my DP seeds was through a seed bank since they don't sell directly in the US. Every one of their impressive cans had exactly the number of seeds I paid for, and they were pretty expensive. I don't know if they give their own freebies when you buy from them directly, but the freebies I got from the seed bank were mostly Fast Buds strains. I'm only mentioning this because these factors seem to put more pressure on outcomes, and when a DP seed fails for whatever reason, people can be harsher and less forgiving than with Mephisto (for instance). Just an observation. Or maybe a projection. Or possibly an erroneous assumption. But I think that's what accounts for some of the harsh reviews of DP I've read out on the interweb.

These are plants so nothing will be perfect, but how the various breeders live with that truth says a lot about them. You know, like everything in life...

Beyond the different business paradigms, I look forward to testing their genetics side by side. And if all goes well, I'll F1 some individual branch crosses between them. :smoking:

If it was me, I couldn't help myself - it would be a combo with the two Meph strains for me. They are both great, if reputation is any indication, I haven't grown either, yet.

Anyway, good luck with the pollen run, and have fun with it. :pighug:

I totally agree with you and I had a few Mephisto duds, but the ones that ain't duds sure make up + the great deals you get by buying directly from Mephisto. I think I would be pretty pissed if any of my DP seeds turned out to be duds. I might have been the oldest member here that was the last to jump on the Meph band wagon. It wasn't that I didn't believe the hype, I had made a couple large purchases from other vendors and I wanted to grow those out and sharpen my skills before I spent the big bucks for Mephisto seeds. I didn't realize back then that with freebies, Mephisto was as cheap as other seed bank deals. So a few months back I decided I was ready to try the DP. I know the Think Different was one of the original autoflowers released, (the name imply s you will think different about autoflowers after trying this bad boy ). The Blue Auto Mazar is also one that's been around a while. Btw, I crossed a male Purple Mazar and a female Red Poison that made some really nice purple plants. I later crossed that with a Stilton Special and most specimens retain the purple color with an added touch of frost from the SS. I have always feared they would be nationwide federal crackdown on weed/seeds and now I have plenty for myself and to gift to family and friends. :pass:

I hear you, and inevitably I will. It happens that the only two Meph strains I have that I know are F7 are Sour Stomper, and Double Grape (Sour Stomper x Grape Crinkle). I want to make more SS (this time transitioning a whole plant), and I could make some SS heavy DG, but beyond that I have: one Cosmic Queen (F5), some Mango Smile (F4), and one last Toof Decay (F5) -- my hope is to cross the Sour Stomper pollen with one branch of each of those and hope for some of that infamous hybrid vigor. The other three plants in the garden look like they'll be Glueberry OG, Brooklyn Sunrise, and Critical Orange Punch, so if it all goes well and I have enough pollen, I'll hit a branch of each of those also. I've had great luck in the past doing that with photos, hopefully this will work as well.
That should keep me testing for a while... like a couple of years!

I've only been growing autos for a few years, but heard about Mephs early on. In the beginning I was so impressed with the freebies and all I was giving them away to friends, I didn't know how hard some of those strains would be to get down the road. In choosing DP strains, as I mentioned the person I grow for prefers sativa doms, so that's where I start, it usually cuts the field at least in half.

My hope would be to get/produce a good stash of solid breeder based strains and "me" based crosses, and have enough to trade with folks for fun, or should availability become strained. With Canada and more US states going legal, it seems like demand is increasing in some cases beyond supply.

You can't go wrong using Mephisto beans in your crosses! I've grown Double Grape several times, 3 Bears OG, Alien vs Triangle, Skywalker have all been in my jars. Your CDLC x Skywalker is a something I bet would be killer! I always heard that anything crossed to the Crinkle Cut was great! As far as your DP beans, the Brooklyn Sunrise is the only one I know of and that was following someone else's grow and they gave it high marks. :pass:

I can tell you that if I had had two Cosmic Queen seeds, CS would have been the seed run. I absolutely love that strain. I have one seed left. Sigh. And as far as I am aware, I have not had a chance to buy more for a long time. If it comes up where I can get at it again, I will add to the stash and make seeds asap. The smell of this stuff is unique and absolutely delicious.

Have fun with all those crosses. :pighug:

My very first Fastbuds purchase I got a wild gorilla glue pheno that went full on sativa, but it wasn't really bad, and the other plant was so good, I keep buying from them

I've heard other similar reports, where there is a pretty wide range of pheno variation, but most of the plants finished really well. Gotta go with what works for you. I picked up some Gorilla Cookies and Gelato, and then I had to throw in some Jack Herer because as a photo that's a favorite. I also got a whole lotta their Green Crack as a freebie with other orders. That should give me a decent sample of their work, I'm just not exactly sure when I'll be popping them.
