looks like you might be getting light into the res, with your hydroton so low. IMO you should keep the water level high to start a seedling and keep the net cup full. Then, lower the water level after the root leaves the bottom of the netpot.
Looks like you have gotten a handle on the DWC but you could have the cube higher up, about 2/3 because then you get a larger root zone in the hydroton for safety reason if water is to low in the bucket, air pump dies or something, just good to have a bit of a root mass that can hold some extra water but still have fresh air around it, and also less light going into the bucket
I normally cut out a circle out of the Mylar black/white plastic to lay over the bucket and then cross slits for the plant to stick out off, I get completely white roots with that
well good roots is also nutrition balance and oxygen but I did 4x buckets half with the plastic and half without and after that I always go with the plastic on top to make sure my bucket is light proof as possible
used also wrap them buckets in aluminum foil because I could not find a tape in Iceland or Sweden that was totally light proof, the duck-tape sucks with light proofing and the chimney insulation tape is to thick but now after finding real black PP plastic buckets I can just go with the mylar plastic circle on the top
