Hi All and Happy New Year!
This is my first grow and have been trying to stabilize my 2x2 tent.. I started this week by germinating a seed using a cup of water and wet towel. I got a 1/8-1/4 inch tap root and planted it into a 2 gallon fabric pot on Wednesday 12/30. It still hasn't sprouted yet but may have messed up along the way..

I watered the soil on 12/28 a few days before I planted the seed. By Thursday 12/31, the medium looked way too dried out so I watered around the edges where i planted the seed. Before i watered though, i was sifting through the soil and noticed that my seed was exposed under very little soil and reburied it, i may have moved it while trying to cover it up?? Who knows at this point.. But trying to figure out if i should attempt to find the seed to examine it?

A major disadvantage of the paper towel method you used is that the sprout can be injured getting it from the paper towel to its next destination.
Planting in starter cubes avoids that problem.
But the method does avoid wasting time on dud seeds.
I use Rapid Rooters, and like them a lot because they need no prep.

If you are very, very careful you can examine the seed.
Having had a tap root, and then not sprouting is a bad sign.
Also, the deeper a seed is planted, the longer it takes to come up.

tomorrow will be day 3 so i think i'm going to carefully dig it out to inspect. Maybe start germinating another seed just case.

I like things simple. 50mm jiffy Pellet, inflate it with water, put the seed in that little hole, put a pinch of coco or soil over the hole, may be 2, set it in a warm place on the outter edges of my lights..They pop quick, roots shoot out the bottom and sides really fast, and throw it in the final container...

Patience is something that’s needed from germination though cure.

Do most people consider the sprout phase gemination? Or once they sprout, it's being dated as "Day 1"? I've read a few different view points on this but have started dating this as day 1 of week 1.

Germination to me is from soak to paper towel and the seed showing the tail until it emerges topside. Day one, to me is the first leaf...with autos I count the single leaf day. Also remember the breeders estimate is usually a week or two early.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Here's another noob question that i've been watching closely the last couple of days. I have 2 larger hygrometers and 2 smaller one intended for use when i begin to curing stage (still a long ways away). To optimize my readings and to ensure i have consistency, i placed one of the larger hygrometer in the pot on the soil along with one of the smaller ones. Then, the other larger hygrometer on the floor of my tent along with my other small one. I'm getting inconsistent readings everyone and don't even know when one to trust anyone now. The larger hygrometer is reading the temp +/- a few with the smaller one but the RH is off by a lot... The larger indicates 50'ish and the smaller around low 80's. The ones on the floor are also off +/- (10-20) the temp and RH.. Could this be due to the soil being somewhat moist which the smaller hygrometer is picking up the RH from? Should i be concerned about the Temp/RH of the air in the tent and not from the soil it self?

I was confident prior to planting but now into my first grow, questions and uncertainties are popping up all the time..
