Indoor Sour 60 and Blue Streak seed run

30 March 2011

Day 16
From the eight seeds planted I have ended up with: (dates sexed)
3 x Sour 60 males (26th, 27th, 30th)

2 x Blue Streak and 2 x Sour 60 were put into the DWC late on the 28th (11pm), all four have popped tails and will be up in a day or two. Then I will clean it up properly.

Now I am a bit pissed at only getting one of each female, but shit happens!
Hopefully I can get another couple from the DWC :)

Anyhow, should I separate the males from the females until the females get bigger?
Any suggestions on how to collect and store some pollen for future use?

Dont get discouraged on that it happens to all of us. I think that the main reason you got a high male ratio was the pre ferted soil
even though you had them in a protective layer, i am willing to bet that got saturated when you watered.
on the next go in soil i would let them start in general compost and i bet the ratio turns around for you

with the pollen place a piece of paper or plate under the male to catch some of the pollen.
cut a hole so the stem cam slide through and let it collect.
I keep mine in a separate area once they get a good bit of sacs open i lay it on some aluminum foil and shake the piss out of it.
put it back then sift the pollen left on the foil. If you do it this way make sure you clean your self before you go anywhere
near your room.

Once you have it collected you need to place it in something water and air tight.
like a film case or little glass jars found at craft stores.
then i place it in the fridge. I have used it up to and over a year and got dark tiger stripped beans

Thanks for the info FD :)

I am not overly concerned about the M/F ratio as I did get one S60 and BS female so I will (hopefully) get a crapload of seeds from those two plants, and then there is the 4 DWC plants to look forward too...
I also have 4 more of each (S60 and BS) seeds left and this is why I wanted to save some pollen, hopefully to make more seeds :)
You may have noticed that I am hell bent on making seeds and as many as I possibly can, there is a good reason for this, for me it is very hard to get good seeds, location is a big factor and pension money does not allow for large purchases....especially if customs takes my beans :(

Should I separate the males from the females until the females get bigger?

Day 18 (Soil) / Day 1 (DWC)
All four DWC are up, so far so good. (Today will be counted as Day 1 for the four DWC)
And those plants in the middle are the BS and S60 females.

The BS (left) and S60 (right) females.

The BS males, notice the variegated one is going way better than the other two and it is about the same size as the S60 plants.

S60 males; coming along nicely thank you.

So far I am pleased with the growth rates and how they look in general.
They were watered today, PPM runoff is at 800ish for all plants and PH ranges from 6.3 to 6.5

Day 21 (Soil) / Day 4 (DWC)
The S60 female is a bit sick….post in Infirmary about it, other that that everything is running ok.

No DWC shot was done, but they are small and not really much to look at.

anytime man. If you are looking to make seeds i would try to allow the similar strains grow together if you can.I did this with my JEM to get an open pollination and as many seeds as i could. It was the best thing i could have donei got around 400 beans one plant. I am set for a long time on this strain.

the only separation i would do is the strains, if you dont and allow open pollination your going to get crosses too, which may not be a bad thing but there could be some hermi issues down the road.

Day 22 (Soil) / Day 5 (DWC)
8:00 PM
BS Female paired with variegated BS Male, other two BS males separated.

S60 Female moved to side of cabinet with all three S60 Males, it’s a sad looking plant.

6 April 2011

Day 23 (Soil) / Day 6 (DWC)
9AM
S60 Female looking bad, its actually getting worse by the hour, going to flush it since its my opinion that I cant really make it any worse than it already is.
BS Female not as bad as the S60 but its getting flushed too.

10:30AM
Flushed each female with 10 litres of PH 6.5 plain water, first runoff was tested, S60 was at 1120PPM and the BS was at 980PPM.
After the flush was completed the PPM for both was at 70, but I expect that it will rise again because of the slow release crap that’s in this mix.
Both plants have been put out in the sun for a few hours to try to dry the soil a bit.

The four DWC got a res change, PH at 5.6 and grow nutes added at 280PPM

Edit: One of the S60 DWC plants has leaf vein yellowing, seems strange but it has had this problem since the bean popped!

Day 25 (Soil) / Day 8 (DWC)
The two females are looking a bit better now, at least the spotting has stopped getting worse. They have been pollinated also.

hey there, i lurk this forum occasionally but have never posted! i just wanted to pop in and let you know im doing an mdanzig seed run myself. i popped 10xBS (from danzig) and 6xs60 (f2s from friend). i got 5m, 1herm, 2f, 2 non germ from the BS and 4 non germ and 2 fems from the s60

running true organic soil in 1gal bags with 1kw hps for 12 hours and 250w cfl for the other 12 (24h of light). im pretty sure the breeder himself admits the genetics are hit or miss due to the lack of uniformity but the few allstars you get from popping a pack will really perform. so make lots of seeds, pop way more than you need and cull the stragglers

cheers
