New Grower Soil ph questions.

wow squid! that's been one hell of a grow so far, looking forward to watching your next! i've been reading that rinsing the mg perlite with warm water will help rinse some of the nutrients off, but if such a small amount of nutrients from the mg perlite stunted their growth why is black kow (with 0.5-0.5-0.5) be recommended for a soil mix, along with blood and bone meal, which each have high N content?

Not sure man. They are slow release so it's just releasing too much every time you water. My ph was off too, as well as a ton of other things. Wash it really good if you really wanna use it.

hmm, maybe the time release has something to do with it. just trying understand why one would be ok and not the other. thanks buddy! get some rest!

just an fyi, bone an blood meal are very acidic~so it will lower your soil ph substancially. my soil has alot of that stuff in it and ive been battling with it my whole grow~im on day 47-48 ish and its still presenting a problem. i think ive FINALLY got it fixed though. (knock, knock!)

so is the soil mix in the 'growing hefty autos' thread really not good after all? i'm gonna hold off a while before starting until i figure all this out.

not that those products arent good, they absolutely are good. Its just that your gonna need to get some dolomite lime and make sure your soil runoff is within that 6.5 range, thats all. As long as your runoff is good ph-wise, you can use anything you want that you think will be beneficial. Except Miracle grow, because of the slow release nutrients.

but there aren't too many nutes in that mix?

can i ask something??? are there liquids ph up/down like the ones we adjust water ph for soil? i mean if i measure my soil ph and it's kind of high, is there anything i can pour in the water that can lower my soil ph permantely? i know about some things you can try to lower ph in the soil, but i wonder if there is something more fast acting... if we have for example plants that needs 2-3 weeks to finish and we need to lower the ph fast what could we do?

Yes, they do make liquid ph up and down to regulate your water and feeds. You can lower the ph in yours feeds and that will lower your soil ph some. If it is really high and you need it lower, get some powdered sulfur and using the correct measurement for your size container, work it into the first inch or so of your soil, carefully, then water. This will lower your ph. I am not sure exactly what you're doing here but I hope this helps.
