Lighting So it begins, the DIY COB addiction

I picked up some S hooks at the local hardware and robbed my retired 300 watt blurples hangers to get this beast hanging above some nugs.

600 watt HPS over some mephisto and a couple of my crosses. I have an Amare se450 to the right covering roughly 4x4 with 3 mars hydro 600's hanging in the back.

I hung my new light from the same eye hook in the ceiling that was holding the 600 hps.

No tricks, no gimmicks this 320 watt light is brighter than that 600 HPS with a 2 month old bulb. It's within an inch of where the 600 was hanging vertically. Compare the front plants....lots more light is obvious.

Im very pleased to say the least.

I ordered a 24" 20 watt 10.0 uvb bulb today, when it arrives I'll mount it up in the middle of the frame.

After a couple dabs of double grape I thought about the light some more. The appearance of more light.... It must be that it's cobs are spread out over 35 inches instead of just one source with a crappy reflector. Whatcha think?

Finished the rest of the wiring. Soldered the dimming leads from the driver to potentiometer and a ground to the frame. Installed a press button spst switch for On/Off. Last thing was to run the wiring for the cobs, red wire from the driver to the positive on the first cob and then from negative to positive all around the cobs back to the driver.

Minimum power

Giving all she's got captain!

The difference is minimal in the pictures but at full throttle in person this baby is crazy bright. I dare say it's putting out more light than my 600 hps.

Drilled a couple holes in the lid for the on/off switch and the dimmer.

Now to put a couple hangers on it and give the old HPS the boot!

300 watts? 36v X 1.4amp should be 50w per cob.

I tell you that 300w of cobs is a hell of allot brighter than 600w of hps. My little 55's are close to 150w of hps.

I really like it, we'll see how it does over the next month. I turned off the monos on the se450 and the light appears to be very close to the same. 6 x 3070's at 50 watts too I think it is. Thinking of the 1812's for the second frame. I bent some more aluminum Friday for it, 3/4" legs vs 1" on this one.

Your lights sure do fill @FullDuplex 's and your tent nicely with some purdy white light.

I agree the light that is being produced in there is quite nice and its really doing a great job with the plants that are in there.

After doing some math it really is a lot of light. 16x16 for a single cob of that efficiency is extreme. Light output of the p300- 36 par watts. The autocob alone is 27.5 each.

Pepe what's nice about the 1812 and 1818 is they are higher voltage. To get 50w you power them at 1050 vs 1400ma. 50x1.05 vs 36x1.4 same wattage
