Grow Room smart pots/ anyone use them?

well i have had smart pots completely submerged for my entire AA grow, i had no problems as far as fabric not holding together. they grew just fine, without any issues...however what i did observe was, the roots on these autos are so strong that they did manage to poke through the sides and bottom, thus rendering that pot useless for future flood use. now these new plastic "air pots" look like the shit, but you can't use very fine mediums such as coco, but for rockwool chunks, in an ebb and flo setup, it looks like the best thing since sliced bread!

I've been toying with an idea similar but instead of using pumps, I've been considering using Autopot Smart-valves (also called AQUAvalve). I've been mulling on it for a while & think I'm about ready to pull the trigger & give it a go.

As far as fabric pots in ebb&flo - it depends on the quality of the fabric. There's some cheapys out there which I don't think will withstand repetitive fill & draining of the system. Smartpots should be ok, as well as the Oregon Breathers (the original, maybe the new ones too but they seem more flimsy to me)

An explanation of the Smart-valve (AQUAvalve): http://www.autopot.co.uk/watering-systems/aquavalve-accessories/aquavalve
I too have had my eye on that valve and hope it to be the heart off my system one day. I will get a couple maybe today.

I started with 3 gal smart pots and I love them, Now I just bought 4 2 gallon ones for my dresser cab

I haven't tried the soaking method yet, just hand watering. With airpots they recommend packing the soil in good so it creates a bridge. Never had any mess with soil coming out.

Thanks, I was just going to start a new post to ask this question. My 2.4-gal Air Pots came in today, can't wait to get germinating.

The air pots work great.real even drying of soil from all sides.don't end up with the soggy bottom third of pot like I did with regular containers.only drawback is the need to water slowly, to ensure no dry patches develop.

Yes i use 5 gallon smart pots and they are doing a really good job for my girls so far! Critical + and Onyx

cant tell from you pic but any fabric pot should not sit directly on the floor. the reason fabric pots work so well is because they air prune the roots of the plant...and if there is no air flow on the bottom the roots will grow though the pot and/or possibly stunt they're growth.

Thanks for the reply they were just out for a feeding.... Thanks again, so how are smart pots suppose to be set up?

they should be up off the floor, i use closet racks myself but anything that will allow air to flow across the bottom.
