New Grower Size question about 36 day old auto ultimates

There is no equivalent from X to LEDs. And a given wattage of proper good lights absolutely destroys old school HID lights. Wiring up COBs for example is literally two wires. It's all DC power, one is + (red) and the other is - (black). You have to make a complete circuit, and the COB bridges the gap. Most people running multiple COBs are doing it in a big series circuit, where it's a giant circle. The positive output + off the driver goes into [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] COB positive. The negative side of the COB goes into the next COB, [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] positive and so on. Until it goes back to the driver. You can run three or four 50v COBs in a line like that off a single Mean Well HLG-240-1050 driver. The circuit depends on all 3 or 4 working, so there is zero chance of thermal runaway. Don't be scared, it is simple. Everything is laid out nowadays, and you can use Wago connectors to make everything nice and pretty. We have had amazing results with Citizen 1818s 90CRI @ 3500°K, running about 52w each. There is a nice chart online that shows what lights work with what drivers. The truth about LEDs is a little murky. They are amazing when done right, but they are also a quick cash grab from shady people....it's up to you to weed out the bad. The Autocobs are based on Mean Well drivers with Citi 1812 COBs on Mecha heatsinks, and are plug and play if you wanna go that route. These things are pretty much grade school wiring though, so don't be discouraged....it's SIMPLE.

We have done a few DP strains and they seem to have multiple personalities. One is quick and shows the Ruderalis pheno, one is average and much better, and the 3rd is the monster that eats up your space and takes 4 months. Give Mephisto a shot for some killer super tight beans that finish quick. Another little tip is not to count anything until it's in your hands....that can lead to some frustrating nights. Getting 7 ounces off a single plant is great, but don't count on it with so far left to go. When the DP strains get big and show their true colors, you can get double that....but don't count chickens that aren't hatched. Have fun and grab some Phistos.

Great info thanks a lot. Doing a bit of research I’ve found some people even take their old lights like mine and replace them with some of these. One guy put 4 on his old mars hydro and it looked pretty simple.

Yeah. You should see the hobknob KAAAAHB shit I started with. Old cheap CPU coolers with single COBs, a Viparspectra heatsink with 2 COBs and we used the old Chinese drivers from that to make it go. A gooseneck light turned onto a COB holder. Whatever works for you. Pinfin heatsinks or the Mechatronix heatsinks are REAL nice and clean. Just remember all the little bits...like Arctic Silver Thermal Interface Material, M3 Machine screws, BJB holders for appropriate frame size, like CLU048, CLU058 etc, some wire nuts and Wago connectors, Rope Ratchets for hanging em, possibly shrink tubing, 18awg solid core wire is required to use the BJB holders. A digital multimeter isn't a terrible idea either, you can get a cheapie at Harbor Freight or Craigslist. I hate working with the solid core wire, so what I do is take a little short 6" lead of the 18awg solid core and use a butt connector and shrink tubing to splice that to a more friendly wire for working with, like 16/2 stranded wire also known as lamp cord. The strands make the wire SO much easier to work with and is 20x more flexible. If you have any small drivers from the cheap lights laying around, they can make an excellent test bench for testing your newly made COBs one at a time. Makes troubleshooting that much easier and it's nice to finish one knowing it's 100% before moving on to the next one. The guy at the Cobkits website is a one stop shop for all the bits and pieces you need including drivers and cobs and everything else or Autocobs for plug and play convenience. Building em yourself is very rewarding though and you'll have em fired up within a couple hours. Plenty of help around here too if ya get stuck.
