Old Reviews silencing noisy fan with foam

so i think i need a new fan as it is barely able to keep heat down in my tent with the 600watt hps on but for now my problem is noise, anytime i have people stay over i have to pack up everything in the spare room i grow in and drag it downstairs and this happens most weeks, im sick of it. it would be alot easier if i could have it in my bedroom but it is noisy as hell and i dont htink i could deal with that either.
anyway i have some expanding foam around and was thinking of building a simple box with holes for air to pass through but suspending the extractor fan in foam to hopefully silence it for now. i would vacuum a bag around it to stop foam getting in etc but does this sound like a stupid idea or has anyone done anything similar.

any huge problems that make this retarded please say or i might try soon enough.

or alternatively any ideas? i have it hung on bungee rope things and running through insulated ducting and its still very noisy, sounds like somethings clipping or off balance or who knows.

also any near silent fans anyone could recommend me would be great.

How many plants are you growing? Is the fan noise wind or a rattling sound? Any fan will make some noise and be that bad. If it is a rattle sound the bearings are gone and its junk.

hey, 5 in a 3'x3'x6' tent but some may be culled. its a rattle or just sound from the motor in some way but its always been like this i think. so either it was always broken or just a crappy noisy one. either way this is just short term anyway. i will get a 6 inch one soon but i just need to make this quiet enough to deal with for a few weeks.

think a double foamed box in box would silence it for now?

I got one of those foam pads they put on cots and small beds, rolled the fan up in it and stuck it in a box on top of the tent. It helps and there's no mess.

too late you swine! im mid foaming, ah i had everything around the house anyway so couldnt resist. its all sealed under the foam so if it turns out uselessly ill rip it apart anyway.

1 box done and its a bit quieter, but not much was only a small one so it would be easier to fill in the larger box but i dont have high hopes on it being enough. i ran out of foam so ill have to wait till tomorrow anyway.

worth a shot anyway for a tenner.
