surely the type of light you use triggers a different response in what nutrients the plants want and in what ratios, ive always found that if using cfl lights they veg a lot better under the red spectrum as it keeps the internodes tighter, surely you need to open the scope alot more to get a better understanding of what a plants uptake is in order to recomened a correct feeding regime ??

we are moving into the age of plasma, l.e.d and induction lighting so experimenting under cfl lights maybe a step in the wrong direction

obviously im no scientist lol i was kicked out of school but that doesnt mean i havent got the ability to comprehend the different responses in plant growth under certain lights and it doesnt need scientific evidence to spot a plant deficenicy and how to correct it

I did some research on a NASA funded grant about 20 years ago on the effects of certain wavelegths of dim red light. We found that it stunts plant growth. That may be why the internodes are tighter.

You're right, my intention here is to expand the research across all point sources including the LED..

Haha.. I was kicked out of school too. I don't have an O level to my name. I had to serve as RMC in two conflicts during the 80's where i was nearly disposed of to have the privilege to study at a university - although much of my education up until this point was self-directed. Well i don't know, you sound pretty experienced Seymour, maybe you're right..

Trifid and Seymour,
this has been a great discussion that needs to continue with some further research but its conversations like this that make AFN so awesome! Thanks again guys!!!!!

yeah red cfls certainly stunt plant growth, it vegs so much better than the blue spectrum, it didnt need a grant to work that out lol

was it the red spectrum that stunted growth or was it the lack of blue in the experiment. did you test with dual/full spectrum aswell?

I am currently still running a cfl closet with 4 125 watt cfl's with reflectors and I currently have 2 6400k and 2 2700k bulbs going at the same time. Kinda like full spectrum I guess but I have seen no issues in growth so far since they are only at 15 days. I was going to test run it the whole way through and see what the results are yield wise.

yeah fairplay trifid you certainly know your stuff when it comes to the plants genetic makeup nice one for that, i magine your a man moutain of knowledge on here to all the growers so its great that you honoured my thread and showered me with your wisdom

keep up the good work mate im sure your experiments will prove invaluable to most growers

Well thank you very much indeed Seymour, that's a kind thing to say bro.. :D I don't have much experience in plant genetics but it's a nice thing for you to assume. I'm honored..
I'm sitting on a mountain of reference material as we speak :dancer: showering you with regurgitated lines.. copy paste, that kind of thing.. Haha

They will build giant pyramids in memory of me one day..

holy crap, I'm gone to the state house for one day and I come back to this massive information dump on my brain?? AAHHH!! Im on overload!!!! hahaha you guy, this is seriously great stuff. We've got a lab a couple states over that is doing some tissue sample analysis of early stage veg plants to help determine cannabinoid potency in flowering to help us with our breeding. Would be nice to know early on before waiting for flowering to know which ones to mate together. Do I have any idea how they do it? Nope, so don't ask me. :) Just know they said they could do it.
