i'm in soil under hps and i use veg nutes all the way up to week 8.start mixing veg and bloom as so as they start to flower good.usally around week 5 or 6.

And you grow nice big plants mate,It's something we should all look into and find out what different strains requirements are in terms of base nutrients, some strains may require more veg and some less.im Gonna try some veg nutes this run as I didn't use any last time.

hey thanks for the kind words bro!!i've been doing all the reading i can find on this, and from what i'm getting out of it is since the autos grow so fast and live so short, that they need a higher N during flowering than photos.

Nice tony, great info from the canna guys,I guess everyone growing with Led should have a bottle of cal/mag if they cant raise there temps,I personally can't so I'll stick with cal/mag..cheers man :toke:
I also wonder if this theory applies to anyone growing with cfl or t5,or in cooler conditions in general if less evaporation= less uptake of cal..

tony, a question if you please, does the cal/mag problem exsist in photo period plants as well as af strains? the reason i ask is i have three photo ladys under 375 watts of led and they are in fourth week of flowering and there is not a blemish on them anywhere no cal/mag added.

What strain is that?

Hi Seymour,

Those great guys at CANNA have been in touch with me after reviewing this grow and they have a couple of things to say. Firstly they think this grow rocks!

Then they say that they are indeed looking at LED-specific nutrients for LED grows.

"LED light has less (heat) radiation (leaf are colder), causing less evaporation.
The uptake of calcium is effected since it depends on fluid flow of the plant to be transported.

In other words less evaporation less calcium intake.
This gives a displacement in the food cations such as potassium and magnesium

This might well result in calcium and perhaps magnesium deficiency.

So solving the problem, one of the ways of solving a problem is by taking away the problem ;-) give more IR light and convection heat to increase the leaf temperature. "

In other words, raising growroom temperature a little will allow more evaporation which will give greater calcium uptake. That in turn will raise other nutrient levels. "

Another possibility which they recommend is that you get some calcium
http://www.canna-uk.com/calcium

and some magnesium
http://www.canna-uk.com/magnesium

They suggest making a solution of calcium (15%) with an EC off + 0.2 and a solution of magnesium Mg ( 7%) with an EC of 0.1. This would be a supplement that would allow the plants to do well even without raising growroom temperatures.

keep it rocking man!

This is great info. I believe you have solved my cal/mag problem. I am running a small 250 hps air cooled. I just moved my grow and my temps are running a bit low 62 to 70. Where as at my old place I was running 75 to 85. This almost has to be what is going on. I was already in the process of adding another light, getting rid of the air cooled hood and going vert. I bet this solves my problems and without this kind of info I dont think I would have correctly diagnosed the problem. I will be adding light today and will see if it helps. +rep

Seymour mate, i noticed you switched to flower nutes around day 29,but you also say DP autos show sex and carry on vegging.maybe running veg nutes a little longer will stop the leaves yellowing, other members have discussed this and some are running veg nutes longer as they have found some strains requiring N in flowering..or maybe it's just natural for the plant to do this, she sure looks like she's loving everything your doing mate.

here is a couple of my Mi5 pics to show the difference.the first 1 i cut the veg nutes off and used bloom nutes as soon as it started flowering good(week 5 or 6)the second 1 i started the veg nutes as soon as it sexed(2 or 3 weeks)then did 50/50 veg and bloom nutes as soon as it started to flower good(week 5 or 6)till i started to flush at about 8 and a half 9 weeks.chopped them both at about 10 and a half 11 weeks.i think it works so i will be continuing to do this.:D

astronomy, according to the CANNA guys in holland it is more of a temperature related thing, so that would mean coolish temperatures=reduced evaporation=cam/mag deficiency. I am guessing it would be the same for traditional and autofem. The Canna nutrient boys are looking at it, I willl let you all know if I hear more
