Day 52…I’ve been adding Big Bud for about 10-12 days, later in the week that will stop and I’ll be using the canna p/k for about a week.

Day 10…just like the above grow I’m amazed at the growth difference at 10 days when I feed them early and strong compared to treating them gently. Still hand feeding daily and for maybe another week before putting her in the autopot. EC 2.0 ph 5.8 DLI 40

Hey, I don't write often, but what you said caught my attention. First of all, thanks for sharing. And second, when you say you're surprised by the difference in growth between using high EC from the beginning and using low EC, what do you see?

I think a huge factor also is that I’ve started feeding them daily from the day they pop their head out.

Yes.... Especially in a wick base or like op's watering trays..... More roots = more fruits.

Yes, more roots in contact with media/soil/water source and more roots from air pruning are good, but you get neither of these when roots protrude out of the bag. I don't see how the thick protruding roots as shown with nearly all of their length growing out into air are productive vs. roots remaining shorter within the bag/pot, being air pruned and dividing into many finer roots in contact with media/soil.

Do any bag-using bottom self-feeding/wicking base manufacturers (AC Infinity, Tray2Grow, AutoPots, SpiderFarmer, Vivosun, etc.) actually sell or recommend using bags/pots that easily allow roots to escape into the base/water source? I presume not.

Those seeing "allowing roots to grow out of the bag is a good thing" should consider using burlap or other loosely woven bags.

Not "delerium." Rather I presume those believing roots easily escaping grow bags used with bottom-feeding/wicking watering systems is good thing are delusional, asserting something with no rational basis. Nearly all the protruding root mass is in contact with air; how can that be good? And thick roots, as shown, are not as efficient as the same mass of thin air-pruned roots.

AutoPots does not support use of root permeable bags/pots! [Does the shown bag have a PotSock liner installed?] AutoPot's Web site states "When growing in AutoPot Watering Systems it is essential that a PotSock XXL (PotSock not included) be fitted to the base of each fabric pot to provide root control....These securely stitched root control covers have been designed to keep even the most agile root system where it belongs…contained in the pot."

I apologize for pushing for an answer regarding this topic in your thread. It seemed something important to clear up, and I was responding to multiple comments on the same topic (e.g., citing escaping roots as "badass").

It clearly needs to be recognized or common knowledge that grow bags/pots used with bottom-feeding/wicking systems should use bags/pots (or systems) that do not allow roots to escape; and that protruding roots are not optimal vs. containing and air pruning them.

Roots would only go that crazy if they were happy period, they arent constantly in air as the are wet all the time . Auto pots says to use the pot sock to keep the roots from filling the reservoir . Its a non issue basically, if it bothers you put a sock on, if not no big deal, but there is no downside to the roots penetrating the bag unless you dont like it aesthetically. As always the phrase “bigger roots, bigger fruits” still apllies.
