Was wondering how many of you employ selective harvesting. The logic behind it makes perfect sense to me but noticed most people harvest the whole plant instead... including myself.

What say you?

I have found it very rare when the whole plants is ready at once. I like to take the big tops but I will usually leave the plant in there for a 2-7 days to let the bottom stuff finish properly.
There have been times I have been forced to chop all at once but not how I prefer to do it.

Peace

Very cool, thanks for the contribution!
When you remove the big tops, do you use anything to plug or cover the branch you cut from so there's no exposed raw cut or just cut and leave it exposed?

I leave mine exposed. I only ever select harvest my outdoor. I have not saw a need indoor with any of the strains I have grew (auto).

Interesting!

But don't your indoor plants mature top to bottom at different rates too?

Sorry for the stupid question, just wondering why you don't think there was a need to selective harvest your indoors too. Will help me make up my mind, I've never done selective harvest before, lol.

Indoors I can train and trim so the under side finishes pretty close to the rest. Auto's don't get that big imo. My biggest had been 219gr.
I have not grown any auto monster strains yet either thou so that could change.

Ahh yes, I understand now. Fair points my friend. I did some training this grow but after the plant took shape, I wasn't happy with my efforts and realized I need to be a little more aggressive next time. If I can achieve that, then I think, like you, I won't have to worry about uneven maturation.

Cheers man!

I have grown some larger autos I harvested a bit at a time and dried and smoked to see if I get an effect I like.

I grew a photoperiod plant that had colas the size from my fist to elbow and I started getting some bud rot after 7 days of rain and no sun. Took off all the top buds; trimmed, washed and hung those to dry and cut the rest over a week, taking more every few days. Ended up with a pound after tossing several ounces. I can't deal with trimming and breaking down more than 1/4 pound at a time. Arthritis in fingers.

I don't do a staggered harvest. It all goes at once. I have never failed to get high from my harvested grows. Plus, I like to get new plants going right away.

i always stagger my harvest:smokeit:

The best way to find anything out is to try it

and you might be surprised how much them lowers respond to the extra light .airflow and resources that are no longer directed above if a larger plant, but as suggested a trained plant will most likely mature more evenly .
