Sativa, Indica, Ruderalis - Is it all BS?

How about the relative presence or absence of other cannabinoids like THCV?
That post above was the first mention of cbd/thc ratios in this convo. If you read the new McPartland/Small taxonomy paper, you can see they put forward the theory that the variatals from Central Asia, classed as Indica in past, under this new taxonomy classified as ssp. indica var. afghanica/asperrima that states they have a lower THC:CBD ratio, whereas the varietals from South Asia ssp. Indica var. himalayenisis/Indica have a higher ratio.
Personally, I prefer using mixed ratio (3:1, 1:1) flower in evenings for my own use for the sedative effect (couch lock).
If we take the theory that all modern 'hybrid Sativas' that originated from the Sth Asian Indica drug type and were, in recent times classified as 'racy, energetic' then we also assume it is mostly through lack of CBD not just terpene profile.
McPartland/Small also go on to mention terpene profiles stayed relatively consistent between the 4 variatals, which I find interesting.
Its an ongoing debate/exploration and as mentioned in earlier posts and also the paper itself, very muddled from natural and human selection over a millenia.

It is a rare breed (pun intended) that is truly homogeneous, with most seed strains showing at least one more pheno. Add the environmental variables, and all breeders can really promise is a strains tendency to produce certain effects, chemical profiles, ratios, organoleptics, etc. That is why I really appreciate when breeders try to explain what properties they were looking for as they developed the strain.

While I do have favourite strains that I can usually depend on, when I am buying a bag of buds my nose usually knows. And after all was dry and cured, same strain grows have given me sedatives, uppers, and sometimes a plant more suited for cooking.

CBD has long been known to be a moderator of THC. With the right ratio, it produces a wonderful effect. You see, breeders were striving for strains that had higher THC for more "BUZZ" effect, and they knew tha the lower they kept the CBD, the higher was the felt effect of THC Spanish love their fields of mixed hemp and THC bearing cannabis. They do no like the extra high, nor the anxiety one can get from getting too much THC in their system. I prefer a balance. My wife LOVES the decarboxylated weed I prepare for her gelatin capsules every week. She gets 40mg (of decarboxylated flower) that comes from the Purple Kush CBD 1:1 that I grew last summer. Grant it, she takes the pill at night, but she feels it really helps her pain management and helps to get some decent sleep. 40mg is about 2.8 mg THC and 3.2mg CBD. So, close to a 1:1 ratio. My Pink Kush CBD 30:1 Auto is pretty true to that ratio and is actually a "hemp" as the tests on it came back at 6% CBD and 0.2% THC, so 6x5 = 30 and .2 x 5 = 1.

I also decarboxylated some of it (Pink Kush CBD 30:1) for our dogs and give them a tiny amount. TINY. But they are tiny dogs. :)

I find in Autoflwers that there is good THC and some with higher CBD amounts. Grows fast, produces enough for my wife and I, and doesn't take up much space. I find I can combine as I see the needs.

No, that brick weed was nasty garbage! They spit liqour on it to help bind the bale when compressed. It would often be moldy, and was full of stems ( I think the just stuffed full branches into the bailer.......... We stopped buying brick weed and went dry till we finally started getting some Jamaican weed. This was just before Colombian weed started showing up in my area.
Stems stems stems u r right, there was a ton of them & many times the weed would turn to powder...as u broke it up

Yes there’s a difference between all three and it’s huge and if you don’t grow more

Anxiety is caused by young cannabis (pure white trichomes). More trip is found in the young trichs. More trip also bring more anxiety. It’s not the thc, but rather breeders preference. The trip has long been forgotten in modern strains because new and low intolerant users aren’t able to handle it. Nothing says nice trip like a good afghani. Indica. Call it what you like, but hemp is for “kids”. I have real problems, real stress and real medical conditions that hemp don’t do shxt for. Thc is the wonder drug. Instead of watering it down, try smoking less. A hit or 2 every 3-4 days is all I need to stop my aches, pains and social anxieties. A couple more hits and it’s a party. Common sense dictates the need. Abuse is dictated by greed.

You have the same kind of arguments with domestic dogs. Some say that canis familaris is a separate species that is kind of a cousin to the gray wolf and others say that the name should be canis lupus familiaris And that it and the gray wolf are actually either the same animal or sibling sub species. Now if that wasn’t confusing enough think about this. A Chihuahua and a great Dane are the same animal, be it species or sub species. Like with cannabis strains, over the last few hundred years, selective breeding has created hundreds of bizarre dog breeds. So if the dog world is any indication, we may never have any kind of agreement on this whole cannabis thing. LOL
This right here ^^ convinced me

Consider the fox. The fox is not a member of the canine family. Yet it looks a whole lot like most of the other canines (dogs).

On the @KIS podcast, there was a guest who stated the same thing and hosts an alternative to the cannabis cup. The strain that won had less than 15% THC and one that did very well was all the way down to 6%

Terpenes and balance will hopefully guide the future of cannabis breeding as legalization and usage normalizes.
Yeah it's called the Cultivation Classic and it's out of Portland. Not a huge event but very cool folks that are into organic cultivation.

My problem is no matter what I smoke or use in edibles so far has never reduced the pain I have in my shoulder which had a traumatic injury in 1996. OTC pain relievers never work either nor Vicodin. Weed increases my felt pain and studies have shown it can increase felt pain for some people. Cortisone shots would work for about two to three years but in March I received a shot into the joint and it worked for only a few days negating the pain but some returned after a week.

It does allow me to sleep some with the pain though. I've let plants go well into amber hoping for the pain relieving qualities but haven't found them yet. I am currently smoking a Fastbuds Mexican Airlines which is advertised as a sativa and it doesn't increase my pain. Everything else I have grown must be mostly indica, I get a nice relaxed buzz.

I have thought about growing an Afghani strain out but it would have to be an autoflowering type or a fast version since I am far North in a snow belt and the area has some of the coldest temperatures in the lower 48 with a short growing season.
