Sage, do you have your waste water and RO water lines backwards?

Imho ditch the RO and use tap. Sooo much easier. Just declorinate the tap water before you do anything to it. 24hours uncapped bucket, jug, whatever.

You probably won't even need calmag and if you do, very little. Like, very very little. How do you know you have low mag in your water? Confirmed?

Test your PH last, after you add your nutes and additives.

Your eBay water filtration system is good. Don't be disappointed. Use it for your saltwater fish tank. That's what I ended up using mine for. We'll get ya straight!

Exactly what bottles are you using when you mix your water? List everything so we can look them over. Even your PH solution brand.
I believe your over doing it.

hey buddy glad you finally took the plunge. its a bit tricky to start with but youll see how much easier it is soon enough : ) here in bonny scotland our tap water is only 058ppm (never used e/c) so i dont have these worries but ive seen many folk using 200ppm+ without any issues. you might also be able to buy 'hard' and 'soft' water versions of your hydro nutes. id just try the tap water though. if it gives you any jip then worry about ut at the time. thats the beauty of hydro. its that easy to change whats in the res if its not working.

oh and you can buy different versions of calmag that are balanced differently if you ever feel the need. mines has added iron and a few other things as my waters low on everything. honestly wouldnt worry too much though. as long as your ph is on and you start your nutes week you'll be fine. defs and tox are fixed instantly at the drop of a bottle : ) i keep a little pad and pen in the tent and just jot down the ppm and ph every day. cant go wrong : )

thanks @sanguine and @MedGrower I might well go for the middle ground and gradually increase the amounts of tap. And luckily I do have a spare res so I can always quickly swap back if need be.

Quick root shot - Strangley there doesn't seem to be a single central tap root, but several side roots... Or maybe I've got multiple tap roots and am going to grow a very large tree! PH is stable at 6.2.

Yeah these white strands of roots are first to emerge. Looks nice and moist. They are going to just explode from there, but try not to pester them too much at this stage cause they are so sensitive little ones. Good job!

How many L/day does your ROunit produce? It might be that you have to weak preasure in your house pipes. You can order a booster pump for your RO from most salt water aquarium shops.

LOL yeah don't get me wrong its good to check it to make sure they get going right but by the looks of it they are going to. I'd rest easy and maybe give it a peek say a week from now unless anything weird comes up. You're golden
