New Grower Round 2

I may see your problem, when I place my seeds in the paper towel I put that paper towel into an empty dvd case and then place that in warm spot in my veg room. I have different spots depending on the time of year and temperature of the veg room.

Those glass plates you use are cold a would take time to heat up to a temperature the sprouting seeds would prefer. They love it a little warm and snug.
It's just a theory but I think those plates may be what giving you your germination problems. They just to cold for some.
A plastic tuperware would do you better in dark draw or cupboard.

Also do you know how old the seeds are, if they are 3 + years old germination rates will start to fail. I've had some spectacular fails with some pricey ish seeds that are just to old. That's the chance you take with stuff on sale.

Stick with a method, paper towel, plugs or straight into the soil and perfect it for your environment. They no wrong way just your way.

Vader OG recently did another germination video recently, sorry if you've already seen it.

Thanks @Slater I just got a seedling heatmat with a thermostat. Maybe with that and some Tupperware I get better results.
But I bought these particular beans a year and a half ago and they were freebies that seedsman threw in. So they were probably old to begin with.
I messaged Seedsman they said if you would have contacted us within 3 months of buying they would send me new ones. But they said that it's been to long and to order some more. I was like how could I have grown 26 beans in 3 months in one 4x4 tent,I said why TF would I order seeds from you again. Once and done in my book. I don't have enough money to take a shot in the dark with shitty genetics. Lol

@Slater Just watched that Vader Og video. So if you soak beans in water with nutrients that will help older beans? I heard of putting a drop of H2o2 in there . He said 1.4 EC isn't that a lil strong for seeds?

So you think that those plants in the picture would have rebounded like they have if I had grown in soil? Lmk maybe I will try a soil run.Check my other thread out look at the before pictures and then how they look now.
I haven’t grown in coco so I am no expert. I do have coco here that I planned to use but during my research on it I decided to stick to soil for the time being. Growing in coco added some extra things I needed to learn but I’m not willing to do at this time. Measuring PPM/EC and all that. Soil is just way to easy, I ph my water and top dress DTE once every 12-14 days. I use fish shit every watering and molasses once every 10 days or so once they start flowering. Doesnt get any easier.

I feel you and I understand. But I don't think I would have learned half of what I learned from doing coco in soil. I have learned so much about mixing nutrients and Ph buffers ect. I think you have much more room for errors in coco, they can corrected much quicker with Coco. That's IMPO. But I am a noob so I may be wrong. I have been thinking about doing a soil run next to the coco for comparison but I need to get a harvest first.

If you have time to take care of coco plants and stick to your guns on learning the ins and outs, it can definitely be a superior way to grow vs soil. I don’t have a ton of time to throw at my plants so I like to keep it as simple as possible. Plus, I’m still learning the plants. Down the road I may still give coco a try but we will see. Every grow in soil has gotten better and better so I havent had a need to try anything different yet. Not for anything more than curiosities sake.

Hey man with the soil if it ain't broke don't fix it I always say. I have no life right now so I have all the time in the world to devote to my grow. But at the same time I constantly think should do this or that to the plant because I have Ocd's. So it's a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. Lol

@Mañ'O'Green ,@Slater < when I start new seeds should I be using fresh medium every time I start new seeds? The reason I ask is I had some beans damping off that were in fresh coco so I attempted to reuse that same coco and the same solo cup. So is that a mistake also? Should I just use fresh coco whether they sprout or not? Also I started using Mycorrhizae too, I sprinkled it in the hole the bean goes in and sprinkled it on the tap root. Ever since I started doing this with the addition of solo cups I have had horrible luck.

Are you using a humidity dome? Damping off is fungal and happens when the seedling stays too wet and hot for too long. I personally would not use Mykos etc. on a seeds tiny tap root Put the Mykos 1 inch below the seedling and let the root grow down through it. This gives the seedling a chance to get going.

If your coco is contaminated from a previous failed grow by all means use new. The fungus that causes you problems may have a foothold in that coco.

Thanks @Mañ'O'Green I stopped using the humidity domes and still had no luck. I think it might be old beans. But they did grow a tap root so I thought if they grew a tap root that they were viable. This has me worried about my 2nd grow. My first round I had 80% germination rate but I didn't use mykos or solo cups. Just put em right in their final pot.
