New Grower Roots coming out bottom of Airpots

I thought that "air pruning" would have prevented this. The pots are sitting directly on the tent floor, no saucers, no standing water. Is this normal? I have been feeding 16 oz twice per day with little if any runoff from these 5.5 gal pots. No roots from holes on sides. 32 days from seeds breaking soil.

Yeah it's normal mine done the same they will prune themselves once they dry out more just causes more aggressive root production

You've got the base inserted wrong and too low. That's why your roots are on a journey

What MrK said. The base plate should be flipped, and inside the third ring up from the bottom of the pot. That gives enough room for airflow underneath to inhibit roots dangling out.

Old thread but was wondering if anyone raised the base to shrink the pot size. I personally think 5 gallons is to small and 7 is a little to big.

The air pruning occurs at the cones. The idea with the air pot is to maximize downward growth. It should a give massive root from top to bottom and not just a root ball in the bottom of the pot.
I use both air pots and regular pots.
When my first and second grow is done, I look forward to compair the roots i standard 10 L platic pot and air-pots. I use both 6 and 10 L air-pots.
