Whats up all?

I have always dreamt of growing my own ganj and recently had a room mate move out....freeing up a closet for use. Ding ding ding! my opportunity to grow. Prior to them moving out i had done lots of research on growing in general.

So i got myself a 400w HPS and 2 100W cfls. I rigged up the closet with a couple fans and voila! a grow closet(not the greatest but it keeps the temp and humidity fairly consistent and does not lose tooo much light.) I also purchased Fox Farms Tiger bloom and Big bloom. and have been using a generic grow fertilizer.

With my HPS ballast in i have room for about four 3 to 3.5 ft tall plants. I knew many normal photoperiod plants get taller then that without pruning and topping and whatnot(i wanted to keep my first grow simple). Here enters the AUTOFLOWER. perfect for my situation since the plants are smaller and also allows me to keep a continuous cycle of growing without having a second closet for veg or flower.

THe seeds i chose for my first shot were Afghan Kush Ryders, i also got a couple free dinafem 'Fruit'' autos with that.

At this point i have harvested my first two AFKs. Both of them yielded around a half ounce although the one really stretched and ended up a foot taller then the other one and t he buds were far less dense(two different phenos maybe?).

Although the smoke is good, i know for a fact that these could have been much, much better. One part in particular that irked me was the low amount of crystals seeing as this is supposed to be a potent strain. I now have 3 plants going at different stages and have been tweeking my approach little by little to achieve better results.

I stumbled across this website and have found it to be amazing for my research, so i decided to become a member. i look forward to help i may receive in my research.

Welcome boontoon!! :smokebuds:

There are many here who are WAY more qualified than I am to offer you any advice you'll need, and I'm sure they'll be chiming in shortly.

Cheers! :peace:

welcome to the site toon, keeping a grow journal is a great way to track your grow also posting pic's of your setup and plants will help others spot potential problems or an area where you can make an adjustment to improve the grow. Good Luck and welcome aboard :bong:

Welcome to AFN! I haven't grown the AKR's so I can't help you from personal experience. There could be several things that have limited your trich production... when you get ready for some help, upload some pics and you'll find plenty of help available. :peace:

THanks for all the welcomes!
i'm in the process of looking for the cable to hook my camera up to the comp. but once i do i will throw some pics up. Also, i intend to start a journal on the next seed i start.

my setup

Hey yall

I got some pictures of my setup for everyone to check out. I know its a little shabby but i made due with what i have. The cracks on the edges where you see light escaping are necessary to keep the heat down from my 400w HPS.

I am using a 400W HPS ballast and 2 100W CFLS. I run an 18/6 schedule, temps range from 80-86 when lights are on and 70-74 when lights are off.

Right now i have two Afghan Kush Ryders going and one dinafem 'Fruit'.
here are the pics:

top left plant is a 16 day old Afghan Kush Ryder(being LST'd)
bottom left is a 28 day old dinafem 'Fruit'(LST as well)
bottom right is a 60 day old Afghan Kush Ryder. i started the flush about aweek ago, so should be harvesting in a week or so.

Sorry about the low quality camera work

couple more pics

Do keep in mind the older AKR is only my second grow attempt.

Here are a couple closer pics of the two younger plants

104_2325.jpgAKR 14 days(bent over 2 days prior to picture)

good setup and nice plants
hope you have intakes and outakes
no need for the cfl's if you have a 400w hps beaming down
If heat allows i would drop the hps down a bit to increase light, do not forget every 3" closer is 50% more light!
