i had a friend tell me the CFLs would help because they are a different light spectrum is this not true? or just not neccessary?

I have just enough intake/outtake to keep the temperature steady.

hope you have intakes and outakes
no need for the cfl's if you have a 400w hps beaming down
If heat allows i would drop the hps down a bit to increase light, do not forget every 3" closer is 50% more light!

Would it be better to cut the CFLs and just drop the HPS down? it can come down at lleast 3 inches if not 6 without having to worry about the heat

I was meaning for co2
it is true if there 6500k spectrum(blue) but to be effective they would have to be 3" away from plants so blocking the hps defeating the point
if you had tall plants then utilise as side lighting or for veg growth without the hps
then they would be worth using then

you have a sweet setup and no need for lst this is just delaying your crop

I would say 3" to be safe

within 14" from the plant

yes they will take longer to finish but the yield will be the same. You would lst if you were short on height.

fresh air from outside contains co2 or carbon dioxide which is the stuff that makes plant grow, it will get used up quickly if your not getting fresh air pumped in

i tried LST this time around figuring that it might increase my yield from the 18 grams i got off my first good looking plant. (thhe other one from the first round stretched and did not look great)

oooohhhh i gotcha. it definately gets plenty of fresh air. i open the window in the room while the lights are off to make sure the gals get their fresh air.

it will be light stretch from plant not getting enough light (hps to far away) try to get it within 14" if you can. with a bigger auto theres no reason you could not do 85g+ a plant

the window has to be open when the lights are on it can be closed when there are off

ok so i'm definately going to lower my HPS, and you say the extra lights(even with a different spectrum) is unneccessary and shouldn't have a major effect on yield? I know another issue was probably my nute schedule which i am in the process of figuring out.

Anything else you can think of that may be the reason for my small yield? the plant i have thats about a week away from harvest looks like it will have about the same yield as my first plant(it does look better trichome wise though)

change the strain, figure out your nutes and increase the light and make sure theres plenty of fresh air during the light is on and your yield will x2-x5 easy
if growing smaller strains you need to add more to fill the entire area so they soak up 100% of the light

cfl will not effect yield either way

Ahhh so the AKR is just naturally a low yielder? mixed with my rookieness causing the low yield.

Does it need constant fresh air or is opening the room a couple times a day good enough? the air in the actual grow closet gets circulated but the room its in only gets refreshed once or twice a day

needs to have fresh air all the time the lights are on and a couple of times in the dark cycle to reduce the chance of mold
can you put the window on the catch and leave it open a little bit
akr is not a big yielder 30-45g plant is possible but some strains will double that with little extra effort
