I will probably get my backside crammed for this stance but promix is great. You just need to know what you are starting with. I think of BX as a mechanical soil mix which I add Coco and other organic or synthetic (depending on system) amendments in a package arrangment. It has the ability to mold to almost any other system. I soak it in tap water and let it sit around outside for a couple of weeks. rainfall and mold spores and etc. Never had a problem. healthy plants laugh at pathogens.
And for the record, I have worked professionally with Faffard products since the Mid 80's I liked their [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] better than anything they do today but the consistancy is better now.
Everything you ever see me grow is in at least 50% Promix BX.
Everyone has an opinion. But the facts I have developed are that it's better to have a mechanically correct soil than biologically. Now, get both right and you have a photo Op.
I totally agree, promix could be great! You just need to know what youre doing and have some experience. Just seems like theres so much varied info on the net about it.
Myself being one - I'm seeing lots of people using Roots and having gnats. Not saying that they're connected, but I've selected a different brand for future use
I try to actively control pests at all times....so even if there are gnats in whatever I buy, they get taken care of before any seedlings are actually dropped. I learned the hard way to just assume the pests are there, and act accordingly...than to hope for the best, if ya know what I mean. Haven't had any problems to speak of in a long time.
I've been like a kid in a candy store about trichomes since chester introduced me to the bargain scope. I look at them every day for the past 2 years. I've drawn some conclusions I am putting in a picture essay soon. But! There is one thing that I have read here and in an authoritative looking study that conflicts with what I've observed. That the trich heads all fall off. I know they are delicate. Some do fall off. But I have seen enough of them in various stages of shrink to suspect something else goes on.
Here's one of the fullest I've see yet after the mix and cloud and starting to shrink. It's so full it is probably finished but it is an anomaly.
Here's another more normal amid various stages of mix. A good example are the 3 front. The left pumped up just starting the mix. The right mixed and clouded , starting to shrink. And the center finished amber and almost shrunk to the brown stub that will look like the head fell off.
So I ask you all with your knowledge and experience.. Am I FOS?
It's not the soil mix. There you are for that one. In my own grow it's usually the guy running the program that is the greatest challenge. I can be a little thick.

Seen a gnat flying the other day. Freaked out. Pretty sure just a common fruit fly. But I made sure to kill his ass dead before he decided to get too comfortable

They are bound to get in....unless your house is sterile. I'll see one from time to time, and thats ok with me. If they don't have a place to lay eggs....you won't have a problem.
