Hello!
I am going to be doing my first outdoor grow in soil this upcoming spring/summer... (Sth Hemi).
I will need to move the plants in at night as there are to many thieving little buggers around where I live.
Apart from the obvious, the bigger the better...I was wondering if there was any sort of set rule for the size of pots used for Auto's?
To gain maximum plant growth without inhibiting root growth to much.
As I understand it, cannabis roots prefer to spead out wide as opposed to go down deep, but the only pots I can source that get nice and wide are HUGE!!!
Which would be fine if I didn't need to bring them in and out each day.
.
I suppose to put it simply...
What's the best pot size for outdoors that will allow almost any auto strain to get as big as they can, whilst still being manageable to move around on a daily basis?
30lt?
40lt?
50lt?
Etc, etc...

Only grew one auto before mate, i put it in a 5gal airpot indoors and she went 120 days to produce 220g of beautiful buds.

Rather than that, from reading mostly, I feel like most autos wont have the time to fill up more than 3-4 gals of roots... Thats for indoors.

Outdoors I only grew a couple and root development was quite massive as I was able to fill a 35L airpot and she yielded only about 200g+

So maybe plants develop bigger roots outdoors, or was it only a strain differnece i cant tel...

And I aint giving you a straight up answer but hope this info can help with taking a desicion . Good luck

3 gallon fabric pots are very good size to handle and can produce nice size plants. Pick the strains that match. Small to medium should get you 3-5 ounces. Xxl plants will just be crazy to attempt if you are moving them constant. Throw some Mephisto in 3 gallons and they will be perfect

I have a half dozen 32lt or 8.4gal pots laying around and I was worried that they would be to small???...but doesn't sound like it
For genetics...
Amnesia xxl, Tangie and or Super Silver Haze.
I really want to see the Amnesia, as I ran that indoors on a dwc set up and was very happy with the results. The root mass was pretty impressive too.
I'd love to give it a massive big bag pot and let it go nuts tbh...but I've already lost one outdoor grow, so movable pots it is
But I'm sure I'll manage...gives me an excuse to check on them regularly also
.
Oh well, to easy then...sounds like 32lt pots it is.
Cheers!

How much weight can you comfortably handle? What medium are you growing in? What kind of buckets? Coco/perlite will be lighter than soil. You might have issues with the "grow bags" collapsing versus heavy duty pots. You'll have extra weight from the water and your plants will get heavier as they grow.

3 gallon is easy to move around. I imagine 5 gallon will hold more water and require less frequent watering.
