Hi, got a quick question if someone has an answer would be great. I am currently flushing my coco/perlite autopots to prepare them, no matter what ph I put through 5.4 to 5.9 the ph run off will always reads 6.6 (Always this value) no mater what. Is that normal? I get that run off ph is not accurate but to return a stable 6.6ph? Getting slightly higher ppm in run off, nothing crazy.
Is this a good thing to be feeding @ ph5.8 so the plant gets a range of ph to feed from?
any ideas or is this normal?
many thanks

I don't know about all the different brands of coco out there, but some need to be washed first to remove salt. I haven't read up on the way they harvest coco in several years, but they were soaking it in sea water as part of the process and they are suppose to wash it out before pressing into bricks. I went to bagged coco a couple years back and I've used 2 varieties since then. One was called Coco Pearl & the other is Fox Farm Cultivation Nation. They were washed and "pre-charged," (which to me meant it was ready for planting). The old bricks I use to water with cal/mag+ with a weak nutrient solution. With that said, I would water at a lower ph to get the run off down. If your medium is 6.5 and you want it to be 6.0 than water with 5.5. If you check again and it's 6.2, water with 5.8 and so on. Also, it's a good ideal to use cal/mag when u do this. Important! I would only do the following before planting and never after cause it would be too much of a ph swing to the plant! :peace: :pass:

Thanks for the advice, will keep going to see if it comes down, I have been using calmag with each flush also.

What is the PPM going in and what is it coming out?

There has to be something in there to raise the PPM If this coco was washed and precharged then you are washing the nutrients out But if this was not precharged that is salt yet salt will not lower the PH. Perhaps some other contaminant/addition. It behaves like Dolomite lime; Changes PH and adds to the PPM?

Anyhow something is coming out so I would triple wash it and precharge.

plants have been killed using this coco so might try going soil route…..

my 1st grow a very longtime ago was soil so will check it out.
Thanks for your help all :toke::hookah:

Ok, that’s 40 gals of ph 5.1-5.7 Calmag to 170ppm water ran through 2 autopots over 12 hours and the run off PH will not change from 6.6ph And 195-205ppm always no matter what ph value going in that I have used. So this is costing me alot of time and money, fantastic learning experience forsure, invaluable really but enough is enough…
