New Grower our first grow

i should have clarified that the co2 system is the yeast one and not the cylinder one. will have a look thanks :)

lewb12 yes a carbon filter will be needed for the exterior fan and maybe even a filter for the interior one not to pick up spores and such.

Sorry about that I guess I spaced out and didn't read past DWC. I've grown Think Different and it's great. Anything from the Sweet Red family is wonderful and Mephisto's gear is too notch. With everything I know and have seen I would PM Mitch from Mephisto and tell him your needs. Buy direct from him and you'll get sweet bonus seeds. Good luck!

that cant hurt. the one's with tanks and regulators look more advanced and add another complication, at least for me lol

Hello,

Is there any front door?

If you are going to ventilate because of heat, how are you going to maintain CO2 levels inside? But as you have already been adviced, CO2 is really not your first concern now. It starts with pots, soil, nutrients, strain, water. CO2 works in very advanced grows, where people have already made everything for good growth. If you screw with soil and feeding, a ton of CO2 would not help. What about ph management, in my opinion ph is about 100 times more important as additional CO2.

Your lighting is quite limited so too many plants would not work very well. I do not believe you will be able to handle heat if you put too many cfls inside. 150w HPS is limited to 150g dry in skilled hands.

You had started with idea about DWC, now you want to grow organic. Organic is not very productive and is hard to handle, similar to DWC. You need some experience for both, otherwise you might finish very disappointed.

Think Different is very good choice, grows well, not stinky and brings a lot of nice buds.

Good luck!

thankyou gonzo for your in depth answer. we could do hydro but we are limited on nutes, would tomato hydro nutes work? and if they do, are they still better than organic? the only reason we are more confident in organic is because i do have some experience with growing normal ornamental plants but no one has any experience with hydro.

Hydro brings high yields only if done properly. I do not remember a single grower beeing succesfull at first grow in water.

Getting some experience in soil is almost a must from my point of view. But using any ordinary soil and ordinary nutrients will most probably bring you disappointment.

PH control is almost inevitable unless you use Advanced Nutrients stuff and well prepared soil.

Can you get any light mix around? Like Plagron, for example, that would make your life much more happy next months.

I am not sure that you would get enough Co2 to make any difference using Yeast CO2. When you are pulling the hot air out of your cab, you will lose the CO2 as well.

I used to use yeast Co2 when I was growing aquarium plants. The water helped to hold the CO2 in and it made a huge difference. However the CO2 won't make much difference until you have plenty of light and proper nute regimen. Without enough light and food, the CO2 will just be a waste of effort.

hello everyone, im a friend of swinophobe, the one in charge of all the technical things and lights, hes more a green thumb than me and im good with nothing more than wiring and specs, however thanks to everyone here, all the guides and other grows, im picking up quite well and its all so interesting, makes me want to start now.

unfortunately i cant, theres a lot of complications which im worried for and i probably shouldnt be.
we live in an area that doesnt have much resources and if there are any they are probably overpriced for our college student pockets (which is exactly why we couldnt afford led as much as they sound grand). if i could i would have made my own compost, which a roommate already does, but i dont know if eggshells, teabags, veg scraps and other organic things chucked into this compost is any good.

we ended up settling for the only soil we found that isnt an alkaline and made for petunias or roses, a bag of john innes seeding compost, luckily swinophobe happened to stumble on some perlite from a pet shop, we have yet to check a few other shops in the area and if we happen to find some coco coir we might be considering it. other than that the only nutes we found locally yet are a westland brand, the best sounding are bonsai 1.1-3-3 and tomato 6-3-10 + micronutes. i already happen to own a indoor 5-2.5-7 plus trace elements, but it seems way out of balance.

what do you think of this soil and nutes, is there any other common soil which would be better that i might find?
should we bother with a metal halide bulb for the first 2 week of veg? ill be going with a 250w hps and a non adjustable ballast

giving thanks ahead

hey guys, we have so many new things to show you. we are finally nearly ready to start growing. tomorrow i will write up an update post and will try to include everything we've done.
