Outdoor North of the Arctic Circle Greenhouse grow

WOW They look great Trails ! all those long hours of sunlight no doubt. A thought for you that I'd consider in your position... put some reflective material on the back plywood walls and get some light on their dark side ? Do you grow photos up there ?

Hey Vas, all those hrs, and I read once that the atmosphere closer to the poles is thinner, like it is at higher altitudes. The light in summer is so intense you cannot function for long without your sunglasses. I have often thought about painting the wall white, but don't know if it would be too much light, if that is even possible. The back branches grow to the side and reach for the light. What you can't sense from a photo is how the greenhouse covering defuses the light, not much shadowing. I have thought about building a greenhouse out in the open where the plants would get direct sun 360 degrees. But, 10' from the cabin the snow drifts are 10 to 15 feet deep. Means I would have to remove the covering and put back up each season, more chores in a life style of work. Also, the cabin is a heat sink giving back warmth at "night". Last "night" is was 33 degrees. I've seen low 20's mid Aug., lol. We've had a warm and very dry summer, the girls have really appreciated this. I have grown photos, but extra work of covering and uncovering to create the proper photoperiod is a drag. Love autos, don't have to buck nature.

Thinner is good, ask DJ Short. More UV. I'm in Colorado, I understand the strong sun and sun glasses. Up here you get sun burn easy even on cold days.
33 in aug? wow. how many hours of day light? Here it hit 28-29F on set 10th last year. Froze out a lot of corn. The last 2 years ,mothers day, may 15th, it was snowing this year with hard frost. No early garden.

You sound like a smart fellow you have some good hope for pulling something amazing off up there!

You plants look great for what you are dealing with. Some good smoke to sit the winter out.

Still light 24 hrs, although our "night" is dusky low light. Soon we will be able to see the brightest stars, and summer's warmth will begin to radiate into deep space.
